It seems like you need to reprogram your key, and this is how you can do it:
1. Sit in your car and ensure all doors are closed
2. Put the key into the ignition while holding the lock button on the driver's door
3. Turn the G6 key in your ignition from "On" to "Off" while holding the "Lock" button, and do two more cycles of "On" and "Off" in quick succession.
4. Release the ock button and press and hold the lock button on the remote for 15 seconds
5. Now, remove the key from the ignition, and it should be programmed, and anti-theft mode would be put to rest
In 2006 Pontiac put ELECTRIC power steering in the G6's.
Your looking under the hood in the right location its just under that. its all electrical. Must have been not such a good idea because they switched back to normal power steering in 2007.

Press and hold the ENTER button for at least one second. An ACKNOWLEDGED’ display message will appear for three second or until the next button is pressed. This will tell you the system has been reset. Turn the key to OFF. If the “CHANGE ENGINE OIL” message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset.
