This is a problem with the alternator. Diode rectifiers and voltage regulator replacement will give this baby a 14.2 voltage output. In this 3L V6 SUV removal of the alternator requires removing the right tire, the right axis and undercovering to reach the 6G alternator. You can identify a 'transponder key'; it has a wide part wher you turn it.

it resets the anti theft system, so vehicle will start. all gm vehicles from 97-2005, contain a anti theft system called a passlock system. go to tubesound.com to disable passlock for good. (just type in your problem when page comes up).

The starter on my 4.6 liter 1997 Thunderbird wouldn't work. I bought a new stater from NAPA. The instructions said to use the new and improved solenoid wire that came with the starter, as the original wire is subject to corrosion. I did as directed and found the corrosion within the old wire. The stater and solenoid are within two inches of the exhaust pipe and the first cat converter. I wrapped the new starter/solenoid in a heat-shield blanket. The starter is placed WAY too close to the exhaust system. M.Saul
