Would have to check the wiring from alternator through to battery and also the earth from battery to chassis

So also could still be a drain on the charging system even when driving, check for amps drain with engine off

Check cables and clamps sometimes the cables will corrode under the coating and stopping a charge from happening also you might have a small burn in one of your clamps or a hairline crack in that also will stop charging always check the simple fix first

1st attach a volt meter to the battery and do a load test on the battery.2nd Run the engine and check the out put of the alternator. 3rd if ether of these fail replace the battery or the alternator. New alternators show work but are they? Is the drive belt for the alternator on properly. Let me know if we need to go further.

SOURCE: I replaced the car battery in my 2006 chevy cobalt

check all the fuses inside the car. the new battery could have surged and blew a fuse which would cause the key less entry sensor in the car to stop.

SOURCE: how do i change the car battery for 2006 cobalt?

the battery is located in the trunk under the carpet where the spare tire is located, loosen the 10 mm nuts on the terminals and pull them off, gently pull the vent hose from the battery, loosen the bolt for the battery hold down, usually a 13mm or 15mm, remove battery and reverse the process to install

  1. Test the voltage going to your battery using a multimeter. The voltage should be around 14.3-14.6 volts when running. This would mean your alternator is working fine.
  2. If the voltage is around 12 or less, you should check your Alternator fuse, and the wiring leading to your alternator.
  3. At the alternator, measure the voltage going to the main power wire/post for 12 volts with the engine off. Is the voltage equal to battery positive voltage (B+)? If not, repair the circuit.
  4. If your alternator is charging correctly, you may have a faulty instrument cluster, or a short in the wiring.
  5. Inspect the Battery case, posts, hold-down clamp, cables and connections for damage.
  6. Inspect the Generator drive (serpentine) belt for condition and tension to make sure there is no slip between the belt and the pulley.
  7. Inspect the Generator pulley.
  8. Check the operation of the charging system warning indicator in the instrument cluster. Normal operation is as follows:
  • With the key off, the charging system warning indicator should be off.
  • With the key on and the engine off, the charging system warning indicator should be on.
  • With the engine running, the charging system warning indicator should be off.

Charging system not charging

Check ground wire from engine to chassis and from chassis to battery. Sometimes it seems Ok but if you try to bend the cables it's only green powder that is left.

I have a 2006 Chevy cobalt the battery keeps going dead done replaced the alternator but its still not charging. What could be the problem

It sounds as if it has a dead short that is draining the battery. Have a service station attach an amp meter the hot side of the battery with it in between the positive lead and the battery. If it is drawing a a great deal of current when shutoff you need to find the short.

I have Chevy Cobalt 2006. Won't start. Ket appears stocked can't pull out. What's the problem?

A battery indicating only 5.6 volts will never start that vehicle. Battery voltage should at least be 12.3 volts if you want to reliably start the car.

I have no no charge from my alternator. The battery is good, all grounds and other connections are good, and I just put a new alternator in it. Did I buy a bad alternator? My check charge system reading...

Is the belt tight enough or is it good?. That could be the first cause. Second, check that big cable from the battery, also the ignition cable.

What's your problemm?chevy colbalt smells like rotten eggs

The rotten egg smell usually occurs from time to time. It comes from the battery being charged by the alternator. However, if it smells continuously there is a problem. It's likely that your alternator is overcharging the battery. This needs to be looked at soon. The alternator will need to be replaced or repaired. Hope this helps.

I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR IN MY CHEVY COLBALT 3 TIMES AND IT KEEPS GOING OUT. WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT THAT THIS KEEPS HAPPENING

could be several things, firstly next time pay someone else to do it. most likely your tech is missing something, and is misdiagnosing another problem as being a bad alternator. Until the bad part is found and replaced, it will continue to eat alternators.

2006 chevy cobalt. replaced motor, got it running but fan is barely engaging and alternator wont charge the battery...any thoughts?

check belt tension, check power alternator field and armature windings according to specs (smaller wires going to alternator harness) check voltage drop on main alternator cable going to battery, less than 0.4 volts ok, check alternator ground (less than 0.1v ok) check if alternator is regulating voltage in alternator or by pcm computer, also check if vehicle has a load detector to increas rpm while under electrical load....

Car won't start, how do i charge the battery? for a 2006 chevy cobalt

I would recommend hooking the charger up right to the battery which is located in the trunk under the carpet.
You can hook up the charger under the hood to the remote jumper postivie post and to any ground. If I remember correctly there is a strut bolt right next to the remote positive post.
Either way will work but I'd go with the first one.
