The easy part is you just need the latch for the liftgate. The hard part is getting to it and opening the liftgate to replace the latch. You should be able to pull the liftgate trim off most of the way with the gate closed and try to manually actuate the latch to open the gate. You may have to go so far as breaking the latch from the inside to open the gate and then replace your latch.

Once you open the tail gate, you will see 2 torx screws going into the side towards the tail light assembly. Remove those 2 screws and the assembly will come right out. Let me know if you need anything else.

You can go to Walmart and use the little machine they have in the Automotive section near all the bulbs to identify and get the correct replacements. As far as removal is concerned, if there are no screws in the front lense feel around the back side for the wires and see if it has a twist lock mounting. you would twist it and pull out to remove and reverse to install. The reason this is so vague is you didn't mention your vehicle type and year in the question. It posted under the general heading of cars & trucks and every vehicle is different.
