It is either defective or needs to be reprogrammed.If you take your remote to a Pontiac/GM dealership they should be able to test your remote at the parts counter.

well does the key go in does it turn to the start pos? if the dash dost power up its because the switch is bad if it will power up but not start it can be becuse of the resitor chip depends on what is going on if you cant get power its becuse of the switch

Any GM motor of the same size (3.8 litre?) and model year should use the same block. I assume your question is concerning whether it will bolt up to the trans and motor mounts. Chevy or Buick are the best bet to be exact matches and easier to find.
