You can tune it up every day if you want to but you only need to do a major tune up about every 80K miles. It is good to give everything a "once over" at least once every two months...check the coolant level, air filter, hoses, drivebelt etc and clean / replace as needed and make sure there is nothing obvious that needs attention. Most important is to regularly check the oil level and change it when necessary. I use synthetics as they reduce friction (wear) and last longer than conventional lubricants.
