Make sure there isn't something keeping the door from closing completely. If that's ok, check the latch mechanism. It should be ope to allow the pin to go into it. If it isn't, you will need to get a large screw driver and while holding the latch handle open, pry the latch out to the open position. The latch mechanism looks like a big "C" and when in the open position the "C" opening is facing the pin located on the car body. If you have 2 latches, one or both may be in the closed position. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Back hatch is not catching the latch to close. My

I would contact your local ford dealer. I worked at a ford dealer in 2003-2005 and there was a recall for the problem youre having with the hatch not latching and the leak. It started for the 2002 explorers I believe. There were exposed holes on the roof that were leaking into the inside-we had a body shop and had the recalls performed through the body shop.
Hopefully if my memory serves me right, you could get this done for FREE!!!

SOURCE: How to open a rear hatch if the latch handle stays

Quickest way to get in there is to cut a hole in the inner panel and pull the rod that goes between the latch and handle and the latch itself. That rod often falls off or slides in the clip. Once you get it open lube everything well and put the rod back into the clip and secure it with a zip-tie. Inner panels are readily available at most scrapyards and aren't too expensive.

SOURCE: The rear hatch on my 04 4runner LTD won't latch. Motor cycles closed, then opens.

If the motor requires too much voltage to finish the cycle, it could trigger the computer to think there is a blockage.

The rear latch does not open easy and doesn;t stay up. Whats wrong?

There should be two hydraulic struts - one on either side of the hatch/tailgate. If these struts have failed, the hatch/talgate will not stay open. Also, since these struts are compressed when the hatch/tailgate is closed, they provide positive lifting pressure when you unlock the hatch, pushing it away slightly from the latching mechanism. Replace the struts, and you should be all set.

Hatchback won't lock on saab 9-3

I had the very same problem with my 2002 Saab 9-3 after I manually moved the trunk latch to the locked position "out of curiosity..." Then I noticed there is a handle you can pull to release latch opening it up! Very simple remedy... It is a glow in the dark green plastic handle hanging down when the trunk/hatch is open dead center, just in slightly behind latch... Gently pull handle until you hear and see the latch click into the open position...Let me know how You make out. BTW: Toyota Camry has the same set up,same color as well...lol Good Luck!

2005 GMC BACK HATCH WON'T OPEN

It sounds like the lock actuator has failed or has a poor connection which won't allow the latch to release. What you will need to do is remove the inside rear hatch panel to access the lock actuator. Once you get to the latch use a flat screwdriver to release the latch being careful not to damage the glass.

My rear hatch light indicates that the hatch is open which it is closed tight. Because of this my interior lights stay on and my remote start won't work. How can I fix this? My jeep is the 2009...

The switch on the latch is more then likely stuck. If you can see it spray it with some electrical cleaner and open and shut the hatch a few times.
