No only if it is defective or you know that you had a short, it is common for a shop to replace both but only after testing to see if there is more than .2 ohms resistance on any of the two prongs on the relay or from the computer to ground.

I have A4 Audi 2008, i have problem with starting, when i open computer box , i found covered with water including all relay, i try to blow them but still not starting

Have you pulled the relays to see how wet the contact pins and plugs are? I would pull each one, blow out the recepticle with your compressor, then grease the plug really good with electrical corrosion grease.. same with your fuse panel if it's wet..

Can u hot wire fuel relay on 04 vw passat v6 4motion

you can do what you wish with you rar. Now the question becomes should I. It may not be a good choice as the fuel pump will not turn off when key is in stop position or removed. Only you can decide.

While driving audi a4 died an not starting

- Won't start
- Check for spark (no spark on any cylinder)
- Check for rpm signal to ECU with scan tool or vag-com (checks good)
- Check for power and ground at coil packs (no power on red/green wire)
- Check fuse 29 (fuse checks good, but is not energized during cranking)
- Check ECM power relay (is getting power and ground to coil side, and power to source pin. It clicks, but no output to load pin)
- Jump relay (vehicle runs)
- Replace relay.

2000 VW Passat 1.8T ATW FWD doesn't start Replace crankshaft sensor (near oil filter) Replace ignition relay (inside the computer box on the left side of computer. Back relay)

Did you replace the crank sender for a reason or just a best guess?
Go through the standard tests.
Does it crank? Yes/No
Is the fuel pump running when cranking. (Its usually next to the fuel tank) There's a relay for this.
Is there a spark at the plugs? Test with a new plug but don't hold the lead, the shock can kill. Use a short lead with 2 crocodile clips, one to the plug body and one to ground (Earth)on the engine.
The injection system has a cold start relay which tells the ECU the extra fuel needed.
Remove the easiest spark plug to get at and see if its wet or dry.
If its wet there's likely a fuel supply. If its dry then not.
Go through the basic checks or have a good diy'er help you and don't change things on a whim. Get a service manual or download the info off a website or owners forum.
There are several sensors for intake temp, coolant temp, air temp, boost control(on a turbo) that affect the ECU. Determine you have the basic ingredients before buying new parts.
You've already replaced 2 items without success.

Auto shut down relay chatters -no power to fuel pump. Replaced relay -still have same problem on 1993 Wrangler

If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking, at the times when it won't start, and the relays are clicking and buzzing, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. ECU is likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Reasonably priced repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.

HELP! car won't Start, Can I DIY with utel ds708 scanner ?

ran vag .com so its a VW but unsre what year and what model and what country its in ,now even euroepon models had a OBDII before 2005 for VW but it wasnt compulsory till then here ,So i suspect that you have a europeon software or asian software as a american vehicle will have by american law the same software so it can be read for the emisions test unlike in europe where a probe and a anayliser are used .Iam asuming this is a petrol passat or similar like a audi but different problems can occur to different engine and your is no doubt a bigger V6 or something which i wouldnt see very often as diesels are the mainstay here with manual boxes ,now if this is a older vehicle with a ignition module seperate a bosch unit with 7 wires to it then this i would suspect if it starts from cold and runs but under load it fails ,another problem depending on model is the coil pack with built in ignition module bolted to the fire wall these crack with heat and give a similar problem.Right i have thrown my pennysworth in but without age and model i cannot help anymore

I Have a 94 cherokee country with a 56028297 ecu,it has no power at the grey wire at the ecu,it does flash sometimes and I can hear the relay work sometimes. I can bypass the fuel pump relay circuit and...

If you hear relays clicking sometimes and the jeep won't start, at those times, is the check engine light illuminated on the dash, or not? If no check engine light is on the dash, at times when the jeep won't start, your ecu is in need of repairs. The ecu sends power to the ignition and fuel relays and when the ecu starts to malfunction, the relays usually start clicking.
