My 05 chevy express starts with no key in ignition as soon as I hook up battery.

I had no power to start, I checked and changed battery, I then pulled out my starter and had it tested twice and both time it passed. I put back in. Then noticed ground off block, I reattached. When I then went to put cable back on battery, the starter engages without key in ignition.I tried a different ignition switth and made sure wires on starter were correct. I am stumped.

The solenoid on the top of the starter is stuck or the drive is stuck in the ring gear. Do this remove the starter and see why the drive is stuck out in the engaged position. if the drive moved Back as you loosen the starter reinstall it and this time keep the drive as far away from the flywheel as you can then tighten. I hope this helps. Take care. If you have more questions for me use testimonial and it will show up in my email.

SOURCE: 1988 460 motorhome starting problem

When its hooked up, you should be able to put 12 volts on the little stud on the solenoid and it should start. One large stud will have 12 volts on it, so just jump it right there. Did you get the wires in the right place. The solenoid should have 1 large wire going down to the starter. Be sure the battery cables are clean and tight ( both ends) Check battery voltage when cranking, should go to 10-11 volts. Check voltage between negative terminal on battery and engine, should be ZERO when cranking. The solenoid has 2 large studs, make sure the battery positive wire and all the other wires are hooked to this stud, the other large stud should just have the wire going to the starter.

SOURCE: 1997 Lexus SC300. 113,000 miles.

You most likely have a short in the wiring to the starter.

Last time I saw something like that a vehicle's exhaust headers created heat which eventually melted the wire's insulation and several of the wires were exposed and shorting on each other and the ground of the vehicle. If possible, get the car on a lift and inspect your starters wiring....

Hope this helps...

1998 chevy asto van wont crank or turn over

Turn the headlights on and watch them while the key is turned to start. If the lights go out, one of your cables or connections at battery or starter is not good. If lights dim a lot but stay on, possibly a bad starter, it needs testing. If lights aren't affected by cranking position, turn lights off, pull the small wire off the starter solenoid, hook up a test light to ground and to the solenoid wire. Light should come on when key is held in crank. If it does, likely a bad starter solenoid. If no light, then the start circuit from ignition switch to starter solenoid is not working. Check for power out of ignition switch on the start wire with key in crank, to begin with. If powered, switch is good, need to check if neutral safety switch is good, and then check or swap in a new starter relay.
Post back with any results.
Good luck.

Sounds like your fan relay is stuck. Look in the engine area for your fuse box, there will be a list for the relays inside. Try pulling the one for the fan. Fans are powered all the time not just ignition on

No power chevy express 1500 van wont start turn the key and nothing.

Hi there, if you turn on the lights do you have head lights? if yes turn the key to start with headlights on does the lights dim? Yes? if yes that means your key is operating the starter if not it means the starter is not receiving a signal from the key to starter, need to know what it does before I go on. If no lights then the battery is dead or you have a corroded battery cable. Let me know for more information.

Chevy Avalanche won't start

If you're getting no power at all when you turn the key to start, try disconnecting the battery and then hook it back up. Chevy has had some problems with an ignition relay solenoid that's mounted under the driver's side dash. Disconnecting power could reset the switch....If that seems to be it, a replacement is around $250. at a chevy dlrshp.

2002 chevy express wont start

Basically an engine only need 4 things to start.
Spark
Gasoline
Air
Compression

Check for these in that order. An inexpensive spark tester can be bought at your local autoparts store.
If you have tested all of the Things above then look and see if you have a fuse burned out.
Not much else could have happened just by changing the battery.
