Try simple fix 1st. Remove gas cap and clean it and gas orifice, then reinstall. Then go to auto parts store, borrow meter(free) and read codes.

What you describe is often due to a defective DIM or also known as a instrument cluster.
The problem could also be a defective Central Electrical Moulde. It is hard to tell without reading the codes.
Either take the car to mechanic or get a good Volvo scanner and read the fault codes yourself.
Here is a guide to get you started. https://www.youcanic.com/guide/read-clear-volvo-fault-codes

SOURCE: Gauge cluster not working

IT IS POSSIBLE THERE IS A BUG IN THE SOFTWARE OF THE DASH WHICH HAS CAUSED IT TO FREEZE. AS WITH ANY COMPUTER A SIMPLE POWER DOWN AND REBOOT COULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. IGNITION ON DISCONNECT THE BATTERY LEAVE FOR SVERAL MINS THEN MAKE SURE IGNITION IS SWITCHED OFF THEN RECONNECT AND CHECK OPPERATION.

Gauge a temp ne fonction pas et fan tourne tout le temp xc70 2006

Turn the temperature knobs all the way hot for a little bit, then all the way cold for a little bit. That's reported to bypass any "interpretation" by the computer/climate control.

Also, go to the dealer and have them read the computer codes from the car. One of the temp sensors could be bad. The climate control depends on inside/outside temp and other data to work properly.

The car will probably have codes relating to this that do not set a "check engine" light.

Why does my fan stay on when I turn off the vehicle after driving it in cold weather? Can it run down my battery?

Your fan will continue until your engine has been brought down to the required temperature. This is normal. However, if you just completed a normal/shortish run and your temperature gauge is going hot or into the red, you could have a thermostat problem, it needs checking out especially as winter is here.

Volvo XC70 I have had several computer errors

Check two items, chassey grounds by battery, transmission and starter. Also, check to make sure the alternator is providing enough voltage, should be around 14 amps. Had a similar problem with my 2002 XC70, replacing the alternator fixed it! I used the Car Talk website to find a good local mechanic vs. the stealer.
