Unscrew the speedometer cable from the back of the gauge and from the transmission, take the cable out of the sheath, clean it off with carb or brake cleaner, oil it and put it back in. If that doesn't do it, replace cable assembly. If that doesn't do it, pull the speedometer gear out of the transmission and check for wear. Replace if needed.

They have a problem with the rubber inserts that help hold the cover to the air ducts. You need to take the wiper arms off and the main cover and check under that. If they are dry rotted or broke you need to replace them, I think theres six or seven of them.

It could be a wheel bearing, you might test for play by grasping the tire at the top and bottom and trying wiggling it. A bad wheel bearing wont always have slack, but if it does, that would be a good indicator, also during a test drive, the howling sound would get louder turning one way and quieter the other.

If your vehicle has a sunroof, then check the sunroof drainage holes for blockage. Use an airline to blow down them and clear them of any debris.
