You may be faced with an open starter motor .Key in start position will energize starter solenoid which will make a audible engagement sound each time its applied. Do check all electrical connections at battery and starter which should be tight and clean as a voltage drop in the cable could be the problem as well.

Check the leads on the battery, if they are loose or corrided.
Check the positive lead from the battery to the starter motor, check for looseness or wire's broke.
If the starter is ok, then check the ignition.

I hope this help's

Sounds as if the starter is going bad. get a hammer and tap on the starter while someone tries to start the car. if it starts then the starter will need to be replaced. make sure you know the battery is good. best of luck

83 Malibu stalled in the middle of highway and won't crank anymore.

Several thoughts, did you stop at a light or did it die while driving? Make sure that the battery cables are tight and clean. The positive cable are two cables tightened by one bolt. Make sure that connection is good.

My 2006 VW Beetle will not start after numerous attempts of turning the key over...there are no indicator lights coming on when I turn the key over...is my battery possibly dead?

Possibly. If it is making a faint click-click-click noise or not making any noise whatsoever, chances are its your battery.

Have the battery boosted, as per boosting instruction in your owners manual.

You may want to replace the battery anyways, as every time a battery is completely drained, cells in the battery die, and it will not hold a full charge.

2004 Dodge Caravan won't start...just a clicking noise...

Check the battery first. Just because the lights are on doesn't mean it has enough power to start the van. If you or the van has a volt meter, the battery should read at least 13-14 volts to be good. If the battery is good then the alternator is good and we move on to the starter solenoid. I'm sure it's one of these. Do the lights go off or very dim when you turn the key? If so then battery.

2004 trailblazer

Hmmmm, from what u say, sounds like everything is ok, but,Bad battery can run lights, radio, but trying to start, will make clicking noise. U jumped it to start, and it did, another sign of bad battery. How are the connections at battery? Tight and clean? No corrosion? Check wire to starter also to make sure it's ok. If all connections are clean and tight, I would recommend removing the battery, take to parts store for free check to see condition of battery (low charge, or if it's shot). If u jump start it, u can also have them check the alternator too (free). U indicate dash gauge @ 14, that should be good. Battery usually has a date 'thingy' on it that u peel off #'s to indicate when battery was purchased, does yours have the 'thingy?'

Starter on a 2001 Taurus

1. Do you hear a clicking when you turn the key trying to start the vehicle? If so, then it is usually the starter solanoid.

If not...

2. Do you have power? Turn on headlights and try starting the vehicle. Do the lights dim? This will indicate a battery problem. If the lights do not dim, this indicates a strong battery.

3. Is the engine turning over but will not fire up. If so, do you have gasoline? Check for spark will be the next thing to check.

Good luck.

Car won't crank & makes a clicking noise when ignition is turned.

Is this the original battery? Have u had it tested? The no crank, clicking noise is classic dead battery symptoms, lights can still work, but not enough power to turn engine over. If it's the original battery, it's at the end of it's life cycle, and should be replaced. U can get the battery tested for free at any parts store.
