Some times the trans in my 2008 up lander seems to slip when taking off in first gearand then it will go all day and shift fine. Now all of a sudden my trans is shifting kinda hard through all gears.

Good luck they all do this and I haven’t seen anyone figure it out yet. People have rebuilt the transmission and it still does it so I say drive it until it dies

Check the fuse block for a blown fuse. There may be a solenoid inside the transmission that finally gave up. Look for poor electrical connections on the wire harness at the transmission and finally, the transmission control module may have failed.

SOURCE: Hard Shift to 2nd Gear/next gear

Your going to have to get your car scaned for codes. Auto Zone can scan it for you for free and tell your what you'll need to fix it.
It sound's like your VSS Sensor (speed sensor) is not working and your ECM is not getting the signal from the transmission to know when to shift the gears.
Becareful not to burn out the transmission till you get it fixed. The sensor it self is not that expansive and to replace it is easy and takes about 30 min to do.
If you get a P0720 or a P0722 code, then it's your speed sensor. It's an esy fix and Auto Zone can give you instrction on how to change it.
Good luck, it takes about 30 min to change and hope this helps.

Did you change the transmission filter and gasket as well as the transmission oil before running your truck.

SOURCE: 2000 impala ls trans problem

YOUR PROBLEM IS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THERE 'S A DEVICE CALLED A PCS (PRESSUE CONTROL SOLENOID) VALVE. THIS VALVE MAINTAINS PRESSURE DURING SHIFTING PATTERNS. IF THIS VALVE LOOSES PRESSURE YOU WILL EXPERIENCE THE "SHUTTER/SLIP" SENSATION. TAKE TO A DEALER IF IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO YOU DON'T BEAR THE BRUNT OF THE COST!!

SOURCE: Why is my gear shift so hard to move??

I believe your clutch is not disengaging fully. When this happens it may be hard to get into first gear but subsequet shifts are easier due to the fact the vehicle is moving. You probably have a hydraulic clutch system which is low on fluid or may have air in the system. Before shifting into first gear or reverse try pumping the clutch pedal 5 or 6 times then shifting, if it goes into gear easier after this then you probably have air in the system, it can be bled similar to bleeding brakes. If this doesnt work you might be low on fluid, or have a bad master or slave cylinder.

2008 Jeep Commander running fine then slows. Then its won't shift or move over 30 mph. Engine light comes on. Code says chip in transmission needs replaced. Need a good & honest Transmission Shop

there is no chip in the trans. sorry.
check fuses.
then this time scan it and write down the DTCs errors numbers.
and post those, we cant guess these critical facts.

find any ASE shop, and get it checked.
they dont need to cheat you, there work load is near infinite.
no reasons at all.

no over 30mph, did the transmission up shift.?
is it stuck in 1gear. surely you can count the gears shifted?
if not , get a real mech.
if the transmission file the FSM stall test. then this it.
1: tranny RPM goes too high RPM (engine RPM) this is transmission slip.
2: RPM in drive, 1,2, or R, is too low below 1500rpm. STALLED.
this is weak engine. not trans.
see?

google stall test transmission. and read.
or read the FSM
or read same on alldata.com

95 corolla wont shift from 1st

Hi there:
Sound like the valves in the valve body are jammed or there is major damage to the gear sets which will not allow second gear to engage.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Had a used transmission installed after burn-out of original trani on 1986 BMW 325es. Original burned up due to leaking connector hose. "New" one is noisey on shifting, a clunking sound at lower speeds and...

Get a second opinion! We had a trans replaced that failed. The mechanic told my in laws I was seen beating the car on a particular day. Actually I was working in New York. Caught him in a lie and got our money back! My point, get it checked a few times. I have been told another trans of mine was shot by a trans shop. Actually my TV cable just needed adjusted. It was fine!
