The whole instrument panel doesn't work? Or just the Fuel gauge? There are tiny stepper motors on the back of each gauge that go out. If it's the whole panel, could be a blown mega fuse, or ignition switch.
Check connectors fuses and relays ----also check the connections ribbon connections and unit under rear seat drivers side --lift seat like your going to fold down

ours did this, it was the guage cluster that went bad. It's about $600 to replace

Sounds as though u have experience the GM usual cluster failure. They go bad more often then probably any other vehicle. Gm has been replacing some under a goodwill warranty for some customers.

If all the guages quit working at the same time, then it is probably a blown fuse. Check your fuse panels in the dash or under the hood. Look for a fuse that is labeled instrument panel or guages, it is probably blown.
