SOURCE: can't bleed coolant system on Audi A3!

In my experience with Audis, after any job requiring changing/draining the coolant the car ideally needs to be driven. With the coolant topped up to max drive the car, keep the revs up and shake the car with steering and over bumps where possible. Whatever you do make sure you take at least 2 litres of water/coolant with you, as as soon as the air lock goes, the level drops a lot and quickly. Also keep an eye on the temp gauge and avoid letting it go much over 90 degrees (over 90 on the gauge usually means its well into the hundreds) When you get consistant hot air through the heater, at idle, the level should of settled. If this doesnt work you may have thermostat issues or a blockage. Good luck, let me know how you get on.

2007. How can I bleed the cooling system?

Hello. To 'bleed' your Buick's coolant system, open the 'bleeder valve' then start engine. Let engine 'warm' to operating temperature. Add coolant/water to reservoir tank if needed as system 'bleeds'. As coolant 'bleeds', 'forcefully' out of 'bleeder valve'; close and tighten it AND keep coolant/water level at FULL/HOT. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

Even if my coolant is full, the car isn't overheating and the light stays on could it be that the coolant isn't getting to where it needs to go?

It may be air locked. In other words there is air circulating in the system that needs to be bleed out. GM vehicles have bleed valves to purge air from a system that has been opened for repair or replacements. Check an old Chilton manual if you can find one for the make and model of the vehicle. It will give you the locations of the bleed valves and sequence to bleed. there is usually one somewhere near the neck of the radiator hose that leads to the thermostat housing.

Symptoms
After several hours of work, warning system indicates hot engine coolant or hot hydraulic oil.
Situation or Problem
Coolant level in reservoir is between the "MIN" and "MAX" range but engine or hydraulic system is overheating.
Summary
Air is entering cooling system, hindering coolant flow. Check coolant level. Fill to the "MAX" line on the coolant reservoir.
Bleeding Cooling System:
The bleed valve (see Operator's Manual for location) on the radiator must be closed when the tractor is operating. Open the valve when coolant is drained or filled. If the bleed valve is left open, coolant will internally bypass between the low temperature circuit and engine high temperature circuit causing overheating. When bleeding the system, open the bleed valve and run the engine with no load for 5 minutes at 1700 rpm. Then shut engine off for 5 to 10 minutes before closing the drain valve. Check the coolant level. If level is below the "MAX" fill line, repeat this procedure until coolant level stays at the "MAX" line.

2003 lincoln aviator water boiling and car overheating

Check to coolant level after it cools off and check to see if coolant-water mixture is correct. If those are ok. You could have to much air in the coolant system. Most radiator caps will automatically vent the air out of the coolant system. It could be as simple as a coolant cap that gone bad. Or you may have a air bleed valve on it and you need to bleed the air out manually. To bleed it you will have to crank engine and get it warm. Touch top radiator hose to see if its warm. If not then the thermostat has not opened yet. That could also be the problem. After it gets warm open the bleeder valve if equipped and bleed all the air out. Once the steam and hot air from the valve starts to be gone and pure coolant coming from the valve. You have successfully bleed the coolant system. Cool engine back off and check coolant level once more. Hope this helps.

BLEED AIR OUT COOLANT SYSTEM.WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN.REMOVE COOLANT OVER FLOW PRESSURE CAP.IF YOU HAVE 3.1 OR 3.4 ENGINE OPEN AIR BLEED SCREW ON WATER PUMP BYPASS HOSE.OPEN BLEED SCREW.WATCH COOLANT IN OVER FLOW AS YOU OPEN BLEED SCREW COOLANT WILL DROP IN OVER FLOW JUG. AS IT DROPS CLOSE BLEED SCREW ADD MORE COOLANT IN OVER FLOW JUG DO THIS UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT COLD FULL MARK.WHEN DONE TIGHTEN BLEED SCREW DONT OVER TIGHTEN IT OR IT WILL STRIP OUT BREAK.CRANK CAR UP UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPEN THAT WHEN TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH COOLANT GAUGE,IF ENGINE TEMPERATURE RISES TURN OFF ENGINE WAIT UNTIL COOL.REMOVE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP USING A RAG TO KEEP FROM GETTING HANDS SCALED.ADD MORE COOLANT IF NEEDED WHEN ENGINE COOLANT STOP DROPPING IN OVER FLOW JUG AND ENGINE DONT OVER HEAT AIR IS OUT OF COOLANT SYSTEM.

I have a 1994 Dodge Ram that keeps overheating.

have you replaced the thermostat , checked for leaks , etc. ? If so, when adding coolant did you bleed the system ? The system has to be bled of air bubbles . Almost all cars have a bleeding screw right at the thermostat housing. It is a regular screwdriver screw. you must bleed the cooling system after adding coolant . If you can't find a bleeding screw, get some thick gloves so you won't burn your hands . Turn the radiator cap until you hear air hiss out. Let it bleed until only coolant wants to come out into the reservoir. The car must be running to operating temperature when you blled the system.
