Yes it will help car run better. Take off any hose that goes to card so that you can see down throttle bore. Start car. Grab throttle linkage and figure out how to move it so that you can make the engine go faster. Begine to spray inside throttle body using little red hose that came with carb cleaner. While you are spraying the engine will try to cut out move the throttle linkage to speed up the engine so it won't cut out. Keep spraying all around inside and outside throttle bore.

Why does my 99 pontiac grand prix gtp supercharge keep stalling

I would check the idle air control valve before replacing anything.
The computer regulates the idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the intake thru the throttle body.
The valve could be faulty, or the throttle body can be gummed up.
Is the check engine light on ?

2001 grand prix gtp rpm flucuating

Try this, pull the maf out ,if you look there is a hot wire going across the tube(maybe 2),if it has any white crusty stuff on it ,just use some spray throttle body cleaner to clean it up,even if you can't see it ,try it anyway!
Cleaning the MAF should be a part of every tuneup

Where is the throttle control sensor located on a 1999 pontiac grand prix gtp

The throttle control sensor is called a TPS which is mounted on the throttle body. You will see three wires that plug into it. The throttle body replaces the old carburetor since the engine is fuel injected as you may know

How to replace throttle position sensor on a 1995 pontiac grand prix gtp

Remove all parts to access the throttle-body, typically the sensor is on the side with 2 screws.  Remove the wired plug and then the two screws.  Assembly is the reverse being careful to fit the flat piece of the throttle-body into the groove of the sensor. Do not overtighten.
Replace connector and other parts.
Typically the sensor is on the drivers side of the throttle body. May be a torx screw, or phillips (star).
Good luck.

I have only been averaging 17 or 18 miles per gallon on my 1999 grand prix gt. what might be the problom? I used to average 24.

Bad vacuum line or your OD in your transmission is not working. Inspect all your vacuum lines and TPS Throttle position sensor), also try cleaning your MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, just follow the instructions on the spray can. Cleaning the throttle body will also help on your engine's ability to be more efficient.

Start with the simple and check the vacuum lines, TPS, and make sure your tire pressure are all at 32 PSI.

Thank you for using Fixya and good luck
