that little orange light is the check engine warning light.
that means there could be something significantly wrong
the light is turned on by the computer in the car, the computer was told by one or more of the electronic sensors that something is not correctly working.
Take you car in a service repair company or the dealer and have the "engine check light diagnosed" they will tell you afterward what could be not working correctly.

What does the orange symbol look like? A Little engine? If this is the case then it is the "Check Engine" light. Please read on.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon or small picture of an engine) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible system faults (the gas cap is just one of them) that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen/Oriley and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.

SRS light needs a special reset tool. The dealer, a good competent shop or even a body shop can reset the lights for you and most will do it free. If it comes back on, one of your crash sensors are bad (little orange cylinders in engine compartment with wiring coming from them)

many things can cause the service light to come on, check the gas cap make sure it seals, otherwise get it scanned,.

When this light comes on, it'll either have to do with the coolant or the transmission. You said that your car picks up speed very slowly and will shut off on you as well. When this light comes on, it also means you're only running on two of your four cylinders. Your car is cycling this way in order to prevent further damage to your engine / transmission.

Check your coolant system for low coolant, or a potential leak. Transmission will be trickier to tackle.

Have you actually taken it to a Ford dealership as I think this light is only for their system to pick up, or just to local garages like Walmart and Autozone.

These Lights are Telling you that the Transmission and FlyWheel are Either Damaged or are Getting Hot Or Both. I would get the Tranny and Flywheel Checked out before it gets Worse. This could result in a Tranny Rebuild or a New Flywheel. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

If Orange, ok, if flashing Orange, still OK to drive. If flashing RED, better not drive too far. Go to Auto-Zone; they read the codes AND print the explanation of the code; ...
... THEN, TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM ... do not just drive into hell.
