2002 nissan altima revs up while idle

My 2002 nissan altima revs up while idle. Also when i turn the heater/ac on it makes a loud noise and vibrates. It's very embarrassing when I come to stop sign or red light. I have to turn the heater/ac off. I turn it back on when I take off. Is anybody having the same problem or have a solution?

My car has done the same thing. . I have replaced the tensioner and belt twice now and it will start it again within a couple weeks of replacement. Had it looked at again and there is nothing wrong with it! just an embarrassing noise. dont replace it, its a waste of money.

I had the same problem, you can replace both the acc band and the band tensor, the vibration comes from a loose band.

2005 Nissan Altima makes rattling/vibration noise

It is possible that you have some timing chain noise, especially if you have the 3.5L engine. The secondary timing chain tensioners on the 3.5 have a known problem, Nissan has issued a service bulletin regarding this and there is an updated part to replace them. It is not a cheap job, but your dealer may give you some "goodwill" depending on your mileage. If you have the 2.5L the problem may a couple of other things...even more serious! They had catalytic converters that came apart and got ingested into the engine, eventually destroying it. Try googling "Altima rattle" and include your engine size in the search. There is a ton of info on the net about noises in these cars.

2003 Nissan Altima, Air condition makes loud noise when the unit is turn on. It slows down where u cant almost hear it after you turn the fan off.

When you put your A/C on, there is Vacum Motor or Solonoide, that increases RPM of the Engine to compensate the load of an A/C. If the vacum hose is leaking or raptured the RPM of Engine remain low and Engine Shakes. When you put the A/C on and the RPM of Engine Increases, but a little, then your Selonoide is working but not adjusted properly, so adjust it for the proper RPM of the Engine. Put all the loads on, I mean Head Lights and A/C on and then ajust the RPM.

VIbration in AC/HEATER fan

I've had mice in my Nissan PU and actually caught one in a trap set on the floorboard; so I know they can get inside. They also knocked some of the fiberglass insulation into the blower motor so it vibrated as it was no longer balanced. You could have a dead one in your blower. Mine was easily accessible from under the passenger side under the dash. Three screws and the motor dropped so I could clean out the fiberglass.

02 altima belt noise

OK, went through the exact same thing this week. Put on a new belt, checked for proper seating, etc, etc. and that wasn't it. Read all through this site and others and it comes down to one of two things, the tension pulley assembly or the compressor itself. Seeing as compressors ran about $300 or so and the pully assembly is less than $50 and takes about 45 min to an hour to replace, I did that first. And for me, that was it. Tip for replacing the pulley assembly? Have a wide variety of sockets (depth) and extensions.
