2000 Olds Alero. Cooling/Heating fan stopped

2000 Olds Alero. Cooling/Heating fan stopped working on all speeds. I know the A/C is working because I can feel the cold air at the vent. Suggestions on what the problem could be...maybe a resistor? I think I checked all of the fuses as this was my first thought on problem resolution. Where is the fan motor and/or switch located on this vehicle if I need to change the resistor or troubleshoot the problem further? I can do minor repairs but I am not a mechanic.

Thanks,
Ed

The blower is on the right hand side under the dash. You are right in thinking the blower resistor is the problem. The resistor is in the heater box behind the blower. Only 2 bolts hold it in but the back one can be a challenge to remove. The bolt is 5.5 mm.

Check for power and ground with a test light at the resistor connector. You should have power on the colored wires in the various switch positions. The black one is ground.

My 2003 olds alero keeps over heating. I have had a major tune up, changed the thermostat and its still over heating. The water pump is working fine. What else can it be?

It could be that your heater core is blocked. I would suggest getting the cooling system flushed, and get a mechanic to see if there is blockage.

My sisters olds alero is overheating. What is the

Take a heater hose off and start it up, it should push it out, a lot, like 10psi pressure. Is the cooling system clean? not rusty?Does the heater blow hot air when the engine is hot, if so thats good. when the cooling fan comes on, is the air coming through the radiator hot...it should be. if not, the radiator may be stopped up. if the top and lower hoses are hot, but the air coming through the radiator is cool, the radiator is plugged, and will need to be taken apart and cleaned by a radiator shop, or better yet, replaced.

Cant figure out how to change the thermostat on my 2003 Olds Alero.

  1. (This is for a 2.2L engine) If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the exhaust manifold.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolts.
  4. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe.
  5. Remove the thermostat.

Cooling fans will not run

Yes, but it gets it's signsl from the temp sensor for the emissions system, not the one from the temp guage sensor. It could also be a fuse or relay.
