2000 Chevy Prizm Lsi 4-speed auto trans. problems

2000 Chevy Prizm Lsi 1.8 w/4 speed auto with 97,000 mi. (Toyota Corolla with Chevy name plate). Has been slipping out of drive gear like it goes into neutral and gears won't engage. If I pull on the gear shift toward 2nd gear then it will engage. Checked trans. fluid and it is normal. Does it unexpectedly. Linkage problem? Any ideas?

That does sound like a linkage adjustment problem.

If that does not work, I'd try a fluid change and filter. But your diagnostics with pulling on the gear shifter is a pretty good indication of a linkage problem.

I Have a 1993 GEO Prizm that the O/D light is flashing and it starts off I 2nd or 3rd gear.. the codes that was pulled are 26 and 36.. how do I fix this problem?

1.6L or 1.8L? engine.there are 3 engines,
1.6L with one injector and one with 4 and the 1.8L with 4.
and the ecu is different on each.

tell which terminals were jumped. and which lamp flashed?
Corolla - jump DLC terminals TE1 and E1 with a short lead 1

which transaxle.?
A131, A240i, a241h, or A245e, (the e trans is tcm shifted)
The 7AFE engine has the TCM and ECU in same box.
the 1.6L single injector engine runs a pure hydraulic trans.(no TCM)
TCM's engine/trans setups.
the 4speed, has 3 ranges switches, and 3 solenoids. and speed sensors., the MPI engine ecu shifts the transmission the TBI engine does not. MPI has 4 injectors, this your car?

if the OD flashes driving, this means TCM sees errors.
can be bad sensor inputs to the TCM
or bad shifter switch, (really they are sensors too, status switches)
and the TCM can see bad speed sensors.
the TCM can also flash if the solenoids are dead. or transmission slips. (nut shell answers)
IF it skips gears, the TCM may be in limphome, they do that on errors. to protect the transmission for damage.

first, off , prizm is just a toy corolla and those are really corolla

best page on car., but i cant find your codes? are you sure you counted correclty? 26 is too rich running. (fuel ratio) 36 I can not find anywhere, (stumped me)

Chevy prizm is hard to start and when intially giving it gas is sputters and stalls sometimes. also seems low in power.

Check the fuel filter. It should be changed at regular intervals. Otherwise it can get clogged.

I have a 2000 Chevy Prizm and the air conditioning fan only works in the highest position. My guess is that one of the relays is bad. If that's correct, which relay is bad?

Sounds like a bad blower motor resistor. Since high speed bypasses the resistor and the lower speeds use the resistor and don't work, the resistor is the most logical answer. It is usually mounted near the blower motor under the passenger side of the dash.

Heater (and a/c) blower motor runs only at the two highest speeds

I had the same exact symptom (02 Prizm LSI)..Order yourself a Blower Motor Resistor (I clicked on it---scroll up on this same screen that you are reading--- AC Delco part, $25.79). When the part arrives, look at it, and then look behind and to the left of your glove box door, YOU WILL SEE IT RIGHT AWAY. 2 screws, takes about 10 minutes to change. Its been nice to get all 4 speeds back! Good luck.

Automatic Transmission problem

You didnt specify which transmission your car has,the 3 speed, model A131L,or the 4 speed A245E.Both transmissions basically have the same elements applied internally when acquiring Reverse gear.Forward clutch off,Direct clutch and Low Reverse clutch applied. The major difference between the two available transmissions for your car is,the 3 speed trans is totally hydraulic,no electronic controls, while the 4 speed trans is totally electronic control.Check the fluid level first, regardless of trans model. If your car has the 3 speed trans,it is likely an internal trans problem.Same thing for the 4 speed model, with the exception that the problem could be the electronic solenoids malfunctioning. The solenoids should be deemed defective or good, before a determination is made.
