The AC Compressor bearings on my Jeep are completely shot. There is grey residue all around the bearings area and I started smelling burned electronics smell. Can the AC Compressor bearings be replaced or do I have to get a new AC Compressor? If it can be replaced, how difficult of a job is that?

I have a 99 Chrysler 300m when I turn the heat r ac smoke comes from the vents and from under the hood.. When I turn the heat/ac off it stops.. It has a smell like burning rubber

sound like AC COMPRESSOR clutch bearing going bad causing locking up putting drag on drive causing drive belt slip giving a burn rubber smell.

Burn smell near tires and strange sound too

it will be one of two things...............either your brakes are sticking on slightly (frozen caliper) and its heating up because of the drag.................or the wheel bearings are shot and heating up when you drive it.................. that's all it can possibly be.
If you aren't good with the tools then its off to the garage for this issue.

My 2001 cabrio that I got less than a week ago. my wife was driving home from work when the ac stopped working and the engine revved up high. by the time she got home there was a sort of grinding sound and...

check your engine belts. if they are intact, check the air conditioner compressor. the bearings may be worn out. which makes the compressor seize. the belt would continue to move over the compressor unit, and cause the burning smell. a jump start should start the car.

Ac stopped working , smelled smoke, shut car off and on then ac worked fine but hearing odd roaring noise every now and then

Sounds like the AC compressor is going bad. Have the compressor tested and I'm sure the belt is what you were smelling. make sure nothing is touching the AC belt. If the compressor stops working properly the belt will burn. Solution= replace compressor and belt.

2000 Jeep Cherokee AC compressor

You would have to go to the dealer and check to see if the car would come without a/c and they would have the idler pulley. Option 2 will work also.

Noise from front of motor

Yes the idler pulley can make noise, but not very common. It can do it though.
