Saab 93 keys not working

We've just returned from being away for 2 weeks and neither of the keys for our 93 are working. We've manually opened the door to get in the car, but cannot start the car or use the keys to open the trunk. I have a hard time beliefing it is the battery in the key, as both of them are not working and we've just replaced the car battery a few months ago.

Is there anything we can try before calling a tow truck?

    Dell -

This turned out to not be a key issue, nor a battery issue, but an issue with one of the wires which connects the battery to the car. This was discovered after replacing the car battery 2x, testing the keys, replacing the key batteries, etc.

The dealer did not charge me for the final solution, considering I had it towed in a few times after being stranded and they thought they had 'fixed' it.

This turned out to be neither a key or battery problem, but a short or bad wire between the battery and the rest of the car.
The battery was replaced 2x with a brand new one, the keys were tested and just to be safe, the batteries in the keys were also replaced. After the 2nd battery replacement, I was stranded in a parking lot with a car that wouldn't start. I had it towed back to the dealer, they 'think' they found the issue with the faulty wire and didn't charge me for the repair. I've not had a problem since. Fingers are crossed!

what was the solution? did it fix itself or did you have to jumpstart it? it sounded like your car battery was having issues.

I have the same problem, and it happends sometimes. seems like it happends when I "stress" the key ignition when I turn off the engine.
Begins with when I get to the car and gonna try to unlock it doesent work, and need to use the manual key to unlock. if so I cant start the car. I don't hear any click when i put the key in lock and I cant turn it around. if you figured your problem out plz tell me. I hope same solution that works for me working for you.
If you look on Internet its alot of people that having same problem.

my solution is when I slam the driver door hard or hit the middle console with my hand I suddenly can start the car and the ignition works also the door locks begins to work.

Hello, I have readed alot about this issue on saab on the Internet and their they also suggested to change some battery cable and a part(dont know which) under the battery.

Which exactly cable do we talk about? + or - or other?

I gonna take a look on the car after new year, I get back to you when I checked the car. Seems like alot of people have this problem and I'm glad if that's the solution that solves problem.

Anyway thanks for the tip, getting back to you...

Seems like the problem having something with heat or when the system is stressed. This morning when I had the cupe heater on in the car (2hours) before start.

The car started normally but when I got to the work, and after half a hour when I needed the car it didnt unlock and didnt "click" or start. I let it stand for 1-2 hour and tried again and nothing, tried to hit the panel and slam the door and tadaaa it worked again.

It happens several time now when I had ON the cupe heater. is something overheating or? its happends so random, really need some help here. or suggestions.

Also in short runs when i locks the car and then getting back after 10-20 minute and same thing, car doesent unlock(need to use manual key to unlock) and the trunk doesent open. try to slam the door and it may work. or wait for couple hours until it works by it self....

Replace the battery in your FOB (your key)
your key has to talk to the computer for it to start
if your battery is dead in your key it will not start

Do you keep the key in your pocket quite a bit? Most BMW's need the key to be recharged in the ignition console for a few hours every week or so. The battery will die if you don't charge it for about an hour or two once a week.

Keyless entry remote

Try this, it works on several 2002 models:

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door.

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.

Step 5: Open and close the drivers door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks.
