ABS light goes on and off

I have the identical symptoms as dlk9296. Sure wish I knew what the fix was. [email protected] I drive about 10 mins. ABS light comes on and trac control button "off" button illuminates. Some times just before the ABS lamp goes back out, the "green" trac control dash lamp comes on briefly and all lamps turn off---system normal.

It sounds to me like either the abs sensor itself or the abs rotor is cracked or may have some debris in it. Loose pads would not cause this and you would hear a lot of noise if pads were loose. Clear code and see if it returns if so then its sensor or rings for that particular wheel, change and clear if still then your abs module or computer for abs is bad. Either way I have worked on vehicles for 15yrs and hate abs so I would ignore the light cause brakes will still work properly either way its just tellin ya so no worries I promise abs sucks anyways

Sounds like you have loose brake pad linings.
The traction control measures rotational speed between each rear wheel. If your pad lining momentarily causes one wheel to hesitate your trac control will flash. As the ABS detects braking without the brake pedal being pushed, it will flash.
Check your emergency brake pads. They can fall apart inside the drum/rotor combo on the rear. That is where your sensor is for the ABS.

Stabilitrak and ABS lights come on but car is running fine

Nope, but take it in. Brake problems are nothing to fool with They'll probabl tell you it's the ABS ECU. Not a cheap item.. However, it only affects the ABS system, not the brakes itself.

2002 chevy monte carlo ss 3.8liter -traction abs issues- the abs light and the traction control light come on and the display says to service traction control. how do i fix this and what could have caused...

So your problem right now is that the ABS/TRAC light keeps coming on? is this correct? and, is there any codes in the ABS Module?

There should be a history code in the ABS when that light comes on it has a code and it will store the code in the ABS computers history. Even if the light is off there should be an ABS code or codes in the history. Having that code or codes is where we need to go next.

Then, if the lights are coming on and it is NOT setting any codes. If thats the case there could be a power or ground problem to the ABS module.but the most problem I have seen with these is the wiring to the front sensors goes bad an intermitanlty will loose a front signal to one of the front sensors and cause this. But that would usually throw a code in it. 9 times out of 10 replacing the harnesses to both front sensors should do the trick (if we had a code and knew if it was RF or LF then we would just replace the wiring to the affected side).

The ABS light stays on, what is that. and do it need immediate assistance.

The ABS light being on will turn off the anti Lock Function. You will only have regular non-ABS braking on your vehicle. O'Reillys Autoparts should scan your system for free, at least you will then know how much it will cost to fix. Hope this helped...

Rr.ABS and the brake lights on

CHECK TO MAKE SURE WITH CAR RUNNING VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY SHOULD BE 13.5 VOLTS TO 14.5 VOLTS. USE A DIGITAL VOLT METER TO CHECK VOLTS AT BATTERY. WITH ENGINE OFF BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS. IF NOT ALTERNATOR NOT CHARGING BATTERY.THAT WILL MAKE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND A FAULTY BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WILL ALSO CAUSE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD.HAVE THE ABS BRAKES SCANNED.IN THIS CASE YOU ARE HAVING BRAKE FAILURE.BECAUSE WHEN BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON THATS WARNING BRAKE FAILURE BECAUSE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS UNIT IS TOGETHER AS ONE.NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.COULD LOSE BRAKE CONTROL AT ANY TIME TOW IT IN.

Anti lock light and so on , is on

please don't GUE$$ this problem speed sensor is part of your speedometer!! not the ABS sensor located at cv joint sensor ring! the sensor is bolted or pressed on to you brake anchor ///hub but it could be your ABS pump?? it could be 1 of 4 of your ABS sensor switches it could even be the sensor RING on CV joint? so to GUE$$ would cost $100.00 up word to a $1000.00 so again take in get it properly scanned to retreve the sensor or other part at fault! usually the fee is waved if you do the repair at that destination! or reduce 1/2 price depending on how well of a relationship you have with your tech our shop usually waves it if you go ahead and get the work required completed! QUESTION is it dangers absolutely! your safety as well as inasint others well it is your choice I hope the free support I gave you helped you out some way shape or form.John
