Question about 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

1995 Mercedes 500sl Convt, D/S Pillar is dripping fluid

I have a 1995 Mercedes 500Sl Convt and the Driver side pillar has a slow drip of Hydraulic fluid at the top of the pillar. How do you fix this and does this signal a major job?

There are 2 rams at tne top to activate the top securing latches. you will need to remove the rearview mirror and the sunvisors to pull off the top cover. It is not a big job but you will have to be patient so nothing gets damaged especially on reassembly. The r.a.m.s will have part numbers on them that will be the easiest way to get the correct part.

Security radio code for 1991 500sl
It will be provided with the original manual/paperwork for the vehicle. If you are unable to find this, you will need to take the car to a dealer. They can provide the code with the serial number and the car's VIN.

The battery died in our 1995 500sl Mercedes. Now the radio says we need a code to turn it on. We do not have an owner's manual.
Usually your Mercedes dealer can get you a code for a nominal fee. They usually require the s/n off of the radio, and the VIN off of the car.

Check your owner's manual, just to be sure the sticker isn't in there from the original owner.

1998 Mercedes Convertible Top Slow and Drips Oil
Your top is moved by an electric motor wich operates a hydraulic pump which moves two pistons which move the top.
The "oil" thet you see is probably hydraulic fluid leaking from the drain hole in the car near the tire.
You have a leak in the hydraulic system.
You need to start at the motor/pump/reservoir unit behind the seat and find the leak.
Most commonly, it is a bad line. Second in popularity is a bad cylinder(s). Third on the list is the motor/pump/reservoir.
If you replace a line, do them all. If you replace a cylinder, replace them both.

Lost key to 1983 Mercedes 500sl
I would suspect the dealer would beat up the pocketbook a bit more. Without knowing the key code you only have the dealer and a solid locksmith as options.

I just had the same problem. All of the fluid leaked out and I had to get the three small engines that move the top replaced. It was about 2200. I hope this helps
