Sounds like an alternater problem. the batt is not charging and is only running off the batt untill it runs out. check the wires ect on the alt and if that doesnt work, get a salvaged alt.

The starter relay or starter solenoid would be my guess, but I am wondering what the gears on the old starter looked like. If they were in really bad shape (deformation or chunks missing) you may need to replace the flywheel.

1996 dodge avenger oesnt start after warms up

Go get the battery and alternator tested for free at the auto parts store.  For some reason the alternator isn't charging the battery while your driving.

Put a new starter in a dodge neon and when you go start it all it does is make a clicking sound and wont start why

Check the battery to starter cable and connections (the heavy one). Because the starter sonenoid is engaging but the starter is not.
