2000 ford windstar speedometer and odometer problem

The sensor is attached to the output shaft of the transmission and should not be affected by the work that you did. Are the ABS sensors ok?

Check the fuse and sensor at transmission.

Ck for abs codes,that should lead you on the right path, I think the speedometer is going to be the root of problems.

replace VSS located on top of the transmission under a steel plate behind the engine

Replace the gage cluster you should be able to find a cheap one on craigslist or ebay if not the salvage yard should have one.

I had the same problem, my mechanic fixed it by changing the master cylinder sensor( switch) which costs 23.95. from ford dealer.

It is probably the gages gone bad or even the circuit bord malfunctioning, I'de get it looked at if you don't know how to do it yourself. The same thing happened to me I replaced them my self they are not to expensive.

pages 183-189 talk about fuses and tell you what they are and the correct fuse amp to use.
I too had some of the problems you are experiencing. my speedometer and odometer quit working and the abs light came on and aldo my cruise control quit.
I replaced the fuse and that fixed everything at once.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Windstar. It ended up being a brake fluid leak around a sensor on the master cylinder. The sensor is a known issue and has been redesigned. The brake fluid dripped onto some elctrical connections causing fuses to blow. The sensor turns off the cruise control when the brakes are pressed. On some vehicles it was known to cause fires and Ford had to provide a recall. At the time my Windstar was not covered in the recall but it may be now.
