My 2003 Dodge Caravan has the check engine light on all the time. I took it to a mechanic and he checked major stuff and suggested replacing the gas cap. The diagnostic codes showed "emission leak." I bought a new gas cap after he reset the light. It came back on the next time I turned the car on, despite the new supposedly tighter gas cap. Now I can't pass the emissions test because it says on the form to not even show up if your check engine light is on. HELP!
If you have an Advance Auto Parts store where ever you are, they will read the code and tell you exactly what to code is and what it means. Any mechanic who "guesses" isn't a mechanic at all - he's a thief. Emissions leak can be any number of things, but not the gas cap!
I'll admit to being wrong about the gas cap causing a P0455 code - seems as how it really can, since yours has been replaced, the other P04xx codes all deal with evaporative cannister system. Check for cracked, plugged, broken hoses arounf the cannister and and the evap control valve (usually in line). According to the codes you've got both a minor and a major leak in this system.
I also found this info on another forum.
A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
Other small leak in EVAP system
Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible SolutionsWith a P0442, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
1684 - means the battery was disconnected - possibly on its last legs. Low voltage during cranking can trigger this code.

Go to Autozone (free engine code check) and check your engine codes again. It might be a different code and a different problem now.
I have Grand Caravan 2004 with code P0440 Evap error. What I was able to fix it was to close the gas cap with 8 to 10 additional "clicks" (when close the gas cap clockwise, keep going/rotating until you hear 8 to 10 clicks). I drove the car for couple days and the Engine Error light disappeared!
Hope this helps.

There were 4 codes: P1684, P0442, P0455, P0456
Need to know what the code is. Emissions Leak is vague. But could be anything from exhaust leak to intake issues.
