Battery won't hold charge

Two weeks ago my 2005 Ford Escape had the battery light go on while driving, shortly thereafter the ABS light came on, all gauges went to 0 and the radio turned off. The mechanic found that the alternator carried full expected charge and attributed the problem to a dead battery. Now, my battery light is going on again while driving. Before I spend tons of money, anyone know what the problem is?

My 2002 FordBattery won't hold charge - 2.gif Escape had a similar issue later in 2006. My alternator died and I needed replacement. After replacing, the light would come on and off at times. When everything running (i.e. radio2.gif, air conditioner, driving lights) and tocuh electric windows up the power would lower and sometimes battery light on dashboard would come up. Original mechanic could find out what was going on and I lived for 2-3 years with it.

This past August 2009 after a long trip (i.e. 8 hours or so) my battery died. Brought to a auto parts place and they determined it was the baterry and the alternator. Since I was back on my home town I went to a good friend that is a mechanic and he fixed it for real.

He had a similar issue with three different Escapes coming back with alternator or baterry or both death. He found out that Ford has an official report for Escapes that when this happens the electric fan behind the radiator are short circuiting, affect direclty the baterry and alternator killing them, and needs replacement.

Try this and may work for you.

Did you replace the battery? Could be the diode pack in the alternator or a loose drive belt.

Battery light comes on and off then kills my car

might be due to the battery being bad and may need replacement but if the battery is holding a charge then it might be due to a short out in some place

Battery light comes on stays on and then the car won't start

You appear to have soaked the abs system sensors in the wheels and shorted them out...A short can take a battery to zero in no time...Check out the car for shorts!

I have a 2005 ford escape battery light came on ,is it true u have to take egine out ,to get to it??

Do an ECU drain first. ie disconnect battery for 30 secs. foot the brake and reattached battery thereafter. If battery check light appeared again, disconnect battery while engine is on. If engine dies, you have an alternator problem - replace it. If engine remains on, you have a voltage regulator problem.
If battery check light disappeared, ECU drain resets sensors thus fixed your problem.

ABS Light On Battery goes dead

did they test the alternator on or off the vehicle? The best bet is to measure the voltage at the battery with the vehicle running. should be at least 13 volts or more these vehicles have a computer controlled alternator and might have a problem with the computer
