Do you feel heat on both heater core hoses? If not then it might have a blocked heater core, low coolant level, defective heater control valve or a blend door issue.
Temperature is controlled by an air mix door inside the HVAC compartment. This door is either electrically actuated if you have an electronic climate control system, or a cable for manual control. Most probable cause is a failed electric actuator (air mix door control module).
What is you question pertaining to the heater core..?...You do not have to remove the complete dash...It is on passenger side up under...just remove plastic covers....(small screws, clips) the main thing that holds it is the hose's...But you seem to know ?? What is your question I will be glad to help..................Unless this helps................thanks ............metalpoet
It's a pretty big job you have to pull the steering wheel diable the airbag and pull out the entire dash. the heater core itself shpuld cost from 100-200 dollars but labor will run you about 500-800 dollars. good luck.
Most are under dash inside heater box you have to disconnect all cables and hose lines .before you can remove core also have to drain coolant out of core...It is a lot of work and not always easy to get back in and sometimes cables do not work as well as they did before repair i personally suggest you get a price from a good Rad shop it may save you a lot of greif in the long run....good luck on your decision also in my taraus I had to remove the entire dash to get at the core
This is a fairly easy fix. Disconnect the heater hoses under the hood. Go to passenger side under the dash remove the lower panel from the dash to access the heater box. Unplug any and all connections on the lower half of the heater box and remove the lower half of the box should be about six screws you should see the heater core and the evaporator core. Heater core skinnier of the two should have one or two straps holding it in remove the straps and remove the core and replace.
you need to remove the glove box disconect the heater hoses look behind the glove box some heater boxes are two pieces and you can remove the heater half some you need to remove the whole piece if that is the case let a garage do it because they need to disconect the a/c so it needs to be evacuated and recharged if it is a two piece box just remove the bolts that hold the heater core under the dash and pull the box strait back good luck
I had problems with a similar truck,a 1998 GMC diesel after checking to make sure the control cables were operating the blend door and blowing the mess of the heater core,I replace the thermostats.Still no heat turns out there was a small amount of debris collecting in the fitting for the inlet hose at the thermostat housing after removing it and blowing out the lines the heat was fine.
