Either with a brake spoon or by backing up at 15mph and hitting the brakes hard, because most have auto ajusters that ratchet up when you back up and hit the brakes. if that doesn't work, take it to a brake shop and have the adjusters checked, as they can gum up and not work properly.

1996 Nissan Quest GXE model. Bleeded brakes. No parts replaced. Brake works normally. No drag. With ABS. Now, right rear wheel and left front wheel locks. left rear wheel and right front wheel turns...

you need to first adjust rear brakes per TSB in our file, 98-14=4 I think. (If you replaced or adjusted rear brakes)

Then bleed again, but you may need to loosen the pressure valve on the master cylinder, or apply very hard pressure on the dowm stroke with the front bleeder on the claiper open just slightly. You have to overcome the the valve spring in it as it is deisgned to send pressure to the rears before the fronts to allow the rears to engage at the same time as the fronts. It takes higher pressure on bleeding to over come.

How do i remove the rear brake drum on a 04 ford transit

If you can't get emergency backed off to allow for movement, then you'll have to get small pointed object (screwdriver or whatever) in adjustment hole to lift lever holding adjuster wheel, then back off adjuster wheel at same time until free. If it's emergency cables seized at backing plate area, try spraying where cable goes into sleeve with penetrating spray, and rap sleeves of cables going into backing plate with a stick, or screwdriver handle and it may help them retract enough to loosen up shoes in drum. Good Luck.

The rear wheel on my 1996 plymouth voyager will not come off. The parking brakes are off. I tried pulling it off with a wheel puller. The top of the drum is releasing fine, but the bottom of the hub is...

There are cut outs on the back of the drums were you can adjust the star adjuster with a brake spoon or straight blade screwdriver. Sounds like you adjusters are out forcing the drums to get hung up.

Spongy brakes 1996 Chevy C1500

You can adjust the shoes outward on the rear by removing the wheels and drums, then above the axle but below the wheel cylinder you will see an arm that is horizontal, pushing both of the shoes outwards. There should be an adjustment nut that you can turn to extend the arm to push the shoes out.

The rear drum brakes:
  • Have internal shoes that expand against the brake drum (1126).
  • Are a single-anchor type.
  • Are actuated by one rear wheel cylinder (2262).
  • Have two pistons in the rear wheel cylinder (2261). One exerts force against the upper end of the primary shoe; the other exerts force against the upper end of the secondary shoe.
  • Adjust rear brake shoes and linings (2200) automatically.
  • Need manual brake adjustment if the adjusters are not operating properly or after the rear brake shoes and linings have been replaced.
When the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic fluid pressure forces the pistons in the rear wheel cylinder outward, moving the rear brake shoes and linings against the brake drum.
The rear drum brake system includes the parking brake mechanism. Refer to Section 206-05 .
