are there any codes. sound like a bad throthle position sensor or a idle air control valve

sounds like a bad throttle position sensor or a fuel pressure regulator. also check the idle air control vavle

Throttle body or idle control valve, with both of these faults you can normally get away with cleaning them.

you may have a frozen fuel line. fuel not reaching engine. put some dry gas in it to displace moisture in fuel system. the reason why it quit when pushing pedal is, its starving for fuel. have a good day !!

The problem with running out of gas is, the driver keeps trying to start the engine when the tank is empty and it burns up the fuel pump. Turn the key on and listen very closely for a hum or buzz coming from the back or underneath the car. This would indicate the pump is running, No sound may mean the pump is not running. Find the fuel pump relay on the fuse block under the hood and swap it with another relay to see if that has any effect. Also check the fuse panel for a blown fuse. If all else fails, get a can of starting fluid, remove the air filter, and spray the fluid into the intake duct while at the same time craning the starter, The engine should start. If it starts and dies, do this 3 or 4 times. If the engine still wont stay running, you may have to replace the fuel pump.

to help figure out what is going on with your car, the first thing to do is get the code downloaded to see what the cause is. A local auto parts store, such as auto zone, can download your codes and get you in the ballpark as to what failed. If they have a parts recommendation, give it a shot...

Check and clean Idle air control valve. Make sure its responding to signal as well. Also make sure ther are no vacuum hoses disconnected. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to start.

have you checked the fuel filter for any dirt in it ??
