When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .

SOURCE: gear shift stuck in park and can't push in the

this is a shot in the dark since could be many things, but check the brake light switch, you have to put on brake to shift from park, had this happen on a ford ranger once, the switch worked under light pressure as far as lights were concerned but required heavy pressure to shift

SOURCE: gear shifter is stuck in park 2008 impala

The system is designed so that if the brake pedal is not depressed during the shift out of park the lock solenoid will not disengage the park lock pin. So the first thing to do is check and verify the brake lights work.

2007 Impala stuck in park and gear override silver button won't work. Can't figure out the problem please help

If your 2007 Impala is stuck in park and the gear override silver button doesn't work, there may be a few potential problems that are causing the problem. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting solutions you can try: Brake light switch: The most common cause of this problem is a faulty brake light switch. The brake light switch is responsible for sending a signal to the shift interlock solenoid to release the shifter when the brake pedal is depressed and can prevent the shifter from releasing if the switch does not operate properly. Make sure your brake lights work by pressing on the brake pedal. If they don't work, it's probably a brake light switch issue that needs to be replaced. Shift Interlock Solenoid: The shift interlock solenoid is a mechanism that prevents the shifter from moving without pressing the brake pedal If the solenoid is faulty or a blown fuse can cause the shifter to go into park. Check the fuse connected to the shift interlock system and replace if necessary. If the fuse is good, the solenoid may need to be replaced. Shift Cable: The shift cable connects the shifter to the transmission and allows you to change gears. Damaged, loose, or misaligned cables can prevent the shifter from leaving the parking space. Inspect the shift cable for any obvious issues and make sure it is securely attached to the shifter and transmission. Shift lock control module: Some vehicles have a shift lock control module that ensures proper operation of the shift interlock system. Malfunction of this module can cause the problem. It may be necessary to use a diagnostic scan tool to check for any error codes associated with the module. Ignition switch: Faulty ignition under certain conditions

2007 chevy impala Shifter stuck in park

Do you have brake lights? The brake switch on the pedal has to work to send a signal to a solenoid at the shifter to release park.

My 2006 Chevy Impala LTZ is stuck in park. Checked the brake lights, they do come on. Took the console apart and pushed in the spring loaded button on the right side with a screw driver to get it in gear....

probably the shift solinoid is burnt or no power to activate it you should check all fuses this doent run off the brake lights it is a solioid that when activated by pressing the brake pedal releases the lock on the shifter just take a test light ground it and chk the wires leading to solinoid one should have power when you press the brake or it could be oposite that it supplies the ground when pressed

My 2009 dodge caliber is stuck on a hillcan't get it out of gear. I tried pushing it turning steering wheel everything I've done in the past with other cars but it just won't come out of gear.

try stepping on the brake pedal then pulling the shifter out of park if that dont work it may have a shifter overide lock near the shifter you pop the cover up with a flathead screwdriver and push the screwdriver down in the slot while stepping on the brake and shifting out of park hope this helps

2008 Chevy Impala transmission shift lever locked up...

I had this problem and its common on the impala. There is a manual release button under the shifter trim. Remove the trim and look down and on the passenger side you will see a silver button near the bottom. With the shifter in park push in the button and this will release the shifter. You can drive the car as long as you don't put it back in park. If you do just push in the button and release it again. My problem was a broken wire in the shifter cable. You won't find this release button in the owners manual. After mine was repaired I drilled a inch and one half hole in the passenger side of the console opposite the level of the button in case I had future problems. Just reach in with your finger and push in the button to release the shifter.

Shifter stuck in park!

you have to take off the plastic all around the gear shifter. You can wedge a screw driver carefully around the edges and pry the plastic off then there is a screw on the shifter take that off and slide the top off and then take off the rubber until the whole shifter is exposed then you will see in the cavity on the right side a little metal round tab on a spring that you have to push in with a screw driver and it will release the shifter. Good luck
