daytime running lights work through a relay module that change the power to the high beam lights which act as the day time running lights.why would you want to remove this system if you could as it doesn`t affect anything other than this system.plus if your in Canada you can get a ticket for them not working as this is a safety related system.
Just press the parking brake down just a bit, enough so that the Brake light on the dash lights up. That should turn them off. Don't worry it doesnt engage the parking brake. I have been doing this for years with my Tahoe.
Check under the hood where all the fuse boxes are located and you will need to find the DRL Module, it is a rectangular, squarish black plastic module, pull it straight up to remove it and purchase another one and install.
if your dash lights are not working, it could be any wire associated with the running lights. Try to find follow any wire that leads to a light that comes on with the headlights. This includes the tag lights. Check the towing lights as well.
No you cannot. you could add a switch, to them but thats going to require some soldering and cutting of wires, or you could jerry-rigged the fuse, with a switch. but really you cannot shut off the running lights. before startup.
