-This happens when the engine has been used for some time and is hot. -It never happens when cool or on short runs. -All gears become almost impossible to engage. A lot (and I mean A LOT) of force is required to pop it into gear. -The biting point of the clutch moves to point were the pedal is nearly fully depressed to the floor. - All forementioned symptoms dissapear if the engine is turned off for about 30 seconds, although they do soon return again. -The weight or resistance of the clutch pedal has altered a few times over the past weeks, regardless of whether the previous symptoms are in action or not.. It can be as light as a feather or very heavy. -Gear changes are always a little bit notchy... especially 2nd gear.
Any help & guidance would be very gratefully recieved. As you can probably imagine this is worrying me a lot. Because of my location, car use is essential and due to recently been made redundant, taking it in to a garage is currently out of the question. I have basic car knowledge and i'm a quick learner so i'm up for the challenge!
I would suggest that your Clutch Pack is in a progressive stage of Failure. These indicators are outlined in your symptoms.
As you will appreciate, each application of the Clutch pedal allows the Clutch Plate [Spinner]to Disengage and Rengage on shift completion, but in a different place on the Flywheel and Clutch Pressure Plate, after each shift, Up or Down the Gears.
This I conclude is why you are getting varying responses, during your driving cycles.

Check you have enough transmission fluid, does it surge when changing up when warm? When checking fluid level run gear shift through gears 3 times to circulate fluid place in park then check level do this with engine running and parking/handbrake on. If you don't run shift through gears before checking level dipstick will give false reading.....usually saying you have enough but when fluid has to circulate there won't be and hence trouble with gear change when hot.
My Lexus es 300 most often when engine is warm will not shift in to last gear. Stop engine start it will shift ok when engine is cool. engine pings kock senores. When in gear at high speed the car runs like new?? Car run bad in hot weather. VSC light on. Red light looks a circle with red line through it comes on not always..
I believe these models have a transmission temperature sensor. If the transmission gets to hot it puts the car into limp mode until it cools down. A faulty sensor may be your problem. Also you may consider installing a transmission fluid cooler. Most cars have the transmission lines routed through the radiator to cool the fluid but radiators get hot. You want to keep the fluid as cool as possible. Ask your local parts supplier about a transmission cooler. There like 30 bucks but can save you a rebuild later :)
the clutch plate is burnt and needs replacing.. Thats why it works when the car is cool or aint running. as soon as it gets hot,, the seal of the metal has burnt out.. meaning the metal binds making it hard to shift.. Change the clutch play,, you'll be fine!
I would replace fluid and filter. At least the fluid. Old fluid has bad temperature range protection and the inter cooler doesn't help cool the lines much.
You have worn out your shift cables. They cost approx 500 to replace. Mine did the same thing, and of course not covered under extended warranty because it is a wear and tear part just like break pads.
How do you know it's getting hot ? What is the Temp gauge showing ? Do the cooling fans work ? Have it checked for trouble codes an scan data checked .
It was however the correct thing to do in changing the fluid and filter - that's the first suspect. No no it wasn't , the correct thing would be to take it to a qualified repair shop . Hooking up a professional type scan tool an viewing data , inputs to transmission control module , ECM/PCM - engine computer etc. The control module controls shift solenoids -which shift the transmission . You could have 1-2 shift solenoid shorting when getting hot . View scan data is the only way to see this problem .
Adjusted Clutch cable assembly under passenger side of vehicle. Had assistance from friend depressing clutch pedal and engaging shift lever. Problem went away
Many times this is caused by either a sticking electronic shift solenoid in the transmission or the trans fluid and filter need to be replaced, has the trans been serviced, it should have been done at 60,000 miles.
