Engine surge at 45-55 mph on 2002 Silverado 5.3l engine

I get an engine surge at 45-55 mph. It resembles a downshift from overdrive. I have had it to a dealer twice. "Cannot duplicate problem". It's normal and is the torque converter clutch cycling". The transmission has just been serviced, throttle position sensor replaced, injectors cleaned, new fuel filter all with no effect on the problem. No codes are thrown and the "service engine soon " light does not come on accept at start up when the truck is cranked.

The truck starts easily, and runs well, however, the exhaust sounds splashy at the crusing speed of 45-55 mph. The surging is most noticable when there is a light load (long incline) and the accelerato is applied lightly (feathered) to maintain speed.

I am about at wits end. Truck has 130,000 miles and has been perfect up till 120,000.

Any help

I would start looking for a vacuum leak. Check all the vacuum lines for cracks or breakage. Spray penetrating fluid on them until you hear the engine start to stumble then focus the spray on that area until you are able to pinpoint the location of the leak. Best of luck,my friend, Dana

Shifted fine changed motors now won't shift to drive or overdrive

check that you have connected correctly the cables for the torque converter solenoid / servo unit as it may not be making good contact after the engine change . Also as the battery was disconnected for a time I would use a scanner to reset the CPU program as the program may be corrupted from the lost battery power.

1999 silverado transmission

Since the transmission shifting and torque converter lock (cruise speeds) up are computer controlled you need to have a scanner hooked up that can read Transmission control module (TCM) fault codes. Also check for engine codes as this could be a misfire, but in that case the check engine light should be flashing while the engine is misfiring and set a fault code. If no codes of any kind are present in memory when the testing is done you almost certainly have a mechanical fault in the transmission like a malfunctioning torque converter clutch, but even that should set a fault code, so have the testing done.

99 silverado will not shift into overdrive

have a 1998 K3500 silverado 4x4 with 454 motor and 4L80E transmission. I can not get over 55 or 60 mph. At that speed the transmission down shifts from 4th (OD) to 3rd. The speedometer also drifts from about 50 to 65. If I try to speed up it will down shift to 3rd. I have replaced the VSS on the trasfer case. Is there another speed sensor somewhere? Or could it be the TPS? The truck drives and shift normal up to this point. where should i look next. thanks

Truck jerks hard in overdrive

its just time for a tune up
what your getting at low RPMs is just a misfire. i would bet to say that you engine light is also on.
so plugs and clean your throttle body and if you haven yet replace your fuel filter.

you may have damaged the overdrive gear, a local transmission shop would be your best bet. for good troubleshoting and estimate.

My 99 Silverado 1500 won't shift into overdrive

There is an overdrive fuse in the fuse compartment on the drivers side door panel, check and see if its blown, if it is there was some problems with the overdrive shift wire touches the bottom of the tranny pan, and can cause the fuse to blow out.
