Where is the crankshaft and camshaft sensor located?

Here's some pics of my 2003 Altima Crankshaft Sensor. Often mistaken by the Camshaft Sensor because both are identical sensors. They are each located in different locations. I've seen diagrams with the WRONG labeling. Again, this is so confusing for even a mechanic to understand because both sensors carry the same part number which is rare. http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/members/digitaldxing-albums-2003-nissan-altima-crankshaft-position-sensor-picture331-2003-nissan-altima-crankshaft-position-sensor.html

I received a P0340 on my 1995 Nissan Altima. It says I need to replace the Camshaft sensor. The dealers say that my car does not have one in it and that it may be in the distributor itself. Is this true....

They may be right. I cannot find the part. here is what the manual says:

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION The camshaft position sensor is located inside the distributor. On some distributors, the camshaft position sensor is not serviceable (replacement parts may not be available separately). If the camshaft position sensor is serviceable, use the following procedure.

  1. Remove the distributor cap and wires.
  2. Remove the rotor.
  3. Remove the camshaft position sensor cap.
  4. Remove the camshaft position sensor mounting screws.
  5. Carefully remove the camshaft position sensor.

To install:
  1. Position the camshaft position sensor in the distributor and tighten the mounting screws securely.
  2. Install the camshaft position sensor cap.
  3. Install the rotor.
  4. Install the distributor cap and wires.

Crankshaft and camshaft sensors location in nissan altima 2003

You are incorrect sir. There is a very good Youtube video showing you exactly where it is that is how I changed mine. The Crankshaft is located behind the engine block below and around from the cam sensor which is easly spotted looking at the engine. The crankshaft is in a difficult spot but once you figure out where it is it's easy...ish hope this helps

In the kit there are two sensor that look identical. The one for the crankshaft has a white paint mark on it near the bolt hole. Make sure that it is in the right location.

Sensor recalls for 03 nissan altima

No recall information on that situation at this time. if you suspect this, you can contact the dealer and provide your vin and they can look up a new or non released recall for your vehicle. If this recall has just been released, it will take some time to circulate though the recall system. at this time, nothing is showing up on our systems on a recall for the crank and cam sensors.

My car stop frequently

I had a similar problem. The 2003 altima has a recall for the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft sensor. I replaced them and got the recall fixed. The dealer has to reprogram the computer.
