Parking light brake light will not go off after power is engaged

I can't put Prius 2004 into drive or reverse after engine power goes on and parking brake is manually disengaged by foot. The parking brake light on the dash will not go off even after repeated turning car on and off. Am I doing something wrong in sequence of starting the car? Thanks.

No the P light ans system will always be on unless you command a drive or N funtion since there is no 'park' in the drive train only a mechanical brake. when running/on, when you put in drive it should acknoledge drive and P should unlock. if not you have trouble and need the dealer

Testimonial: "this was very helpful. Thanks. It finally went into drive after repeated tries. Good to know there is no actual nonmechanical parking brak"

Battery fully charged, engine won't start or even turn over, gear locked in park, brake pedal is depressed.

This may help: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/274-2nd-generation-2004-2010/199861-04-sienna-transmission-lock.html
There are multiple issues here.Won't crank? Go direct to starter.

Click sound when shifting gear and parking

The clicking noise could be related to the bigger problem with the abs/vsc actuator, this is a kind of common problem on the prius models, the actuator should be replaced, this is a very expensive part (around $2000) for the part only, while the warning light is on the traction control and abs are disabled, it will still brake normally.

2004 cavalier wont move

The rear brakes are in fact engaged.
The parking brake handle may be released, but the rear wheel brakes are on.
Jack up one side and see if you can turn the wheel, then check the other side.

Eclipse goes into reverse but wont go in drive.

Friend, start the engine and let it run a few minutes to warm the trans fluid, set the park brake or block the front of the wheels, put the car in drive position and check the transmission fluid. Sounds like it's just too low for the pump to pick up enough for a forward engagement. Reverse doesn't take much to activate the servo. Most automatics are this way. I'm sure you'll find the fluid is way low and needs the proper fluid added. This may mean you have a slight trans fluid leak.

Trans in park computor read out on dash reads it is in drive

You most likley have a bent/damaged shifter cable. Unhook it at the trans, and move the linkage, with the park brake set. Push it all the way forward, that is park. The display should change and it should start. If so you will need the cable. Good Luck

04 jaguar stuck in park

HAVE SOMEONE GO BEHIND THE CAR AND CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON, IF THEY DON'T WORK THEN THERE IS NO POWER TO THE BRAKE PARK INTER-LOCK SOLENOID AND YOU CAN NOT DIS-ENGAGE PARK. IF THEY DON'T WORK CHECK THE FUSE, IF IT IS OK REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.
