Headlight went out in 2003 ford escape i have

The power goes from the headlight switch thru the dimmer switch for the dash then to the cluster. You would check for voltage at those three points.

Is the hrness and headlight getting a good ground ? I would try cleaning it where your ground hooks up with sandpaper.

Which bulbs are you refering to?
Headlights? I went with Sylvania SilverStar H4 bulbs. I was really impressed with the brightness. The bad news... I seem to have to replace them more often; like, 1 or 2 per year.

Another alternative is to upgrade to the 2005-2006 headlamp assemblies. Rumor says they will fit. They use a different bulb.

I'm pretty sure the 2001 thru 2004 Escape takes an H4 bulb for the headlights. (I have a 2002) Both headlight bulbs can be be replaced from under the hood. No tools required.

There are some pictures at the end of my collection that may help.

As I recall, you need to squeeze a clip on the harness plug to get it off.
Then, pull off the big rubber boot.
There is a wire clip holding the bulb in. This can be tricky if you never did it. It will tick you off when you figure out how easy it is.
On the driver's side of the bulb, push the upper wire retainer towards the front of the vehicle a little and then upwards; that should unhook it.
Then, Again on the driver's side, push the lower retainer towards the front of the vehicle a little and then DOWN; that should unhook it.
The wire latch will then swing out of the way, and the bulb can be removed.
The bulb can only be inserted one way.

CHECK FOR FUSES IN OWNER MANUAL,SHOULD BE 2 BULBS SO THEY COULDNT WENT OUT SAME TIME.

Make sure the bulb was put in correctly and sitting flat as bulb replacement does not require head light adjustment.Check head light bulb before attempting to adjust
