check and see if there is a relay in the fuse box under the dash or in the engine compartment (near the battery) for the torque converter. replace it if it's there

I have a 2001 Plymouth neon. In park or neutral it misses really bad. In drive or reverse it will get much better. But during accelerating it is gone until I let off. What would cause this?

Thats very unusual.

How do you align the torque converter to the engine of a 2000 Plymouth Neon 2.0L when the transmission is still in the vehicle so it does not bind? I have been fighting with this for a couple days now and...

look in the inspection space in the bell housing and turn the torque converter around until a stud hole lines up with a nut in the flex plate ( you may have to turn the engine over till you get a nut in position)
pull the converter up to the plate and insert the stud
screw it all the way in but leave it loose
turn the engine over slowly until the next hole is visible and insert another stud
normally there are 3 studs but some models have 4
when all studs are in tension them all up

How do you align the torque converter to the motor of a 2000 plymouth neon 2.0L with transmission still in the vehicle without it binding?

The trick is to place the torque converter onto the gear box first and slide it back to the gear box. position the gear box against the engine housing and do up the bolts. Then through the inspection cover opening pull the converter up to the flex plate align the bolt holes ,insert the bolts and tension up

2001 plymouth neon sputtering

If you have an automatic transmission, you may be experiencing torque converter clutch (TCC) lockup shudder. There is a solenoid in auto transmissions that engages a clutch in the torque converter to save gas on the highway. These frequently stick open and cause problems at stoplights. IF you have an auto, a pretty good way to check if this is the problem is to put the car in neutral at a stoplight (CAREFULLY) and see if the problem goes away. Also, the clutch should not engage until the vehicle is warmed up, so if your problem happens when your car is cold, this is probably not the issue. Sometimes, these solutions can be inexpensive. I fixed my own TCC solenoid on my 1993 Chevy for about $20. Other times it can get spendy.

I have 99 plymouth neon, sevice engine light keeps coming on,have replaced both upstream and downstream oxygen sensors, but the code keeps telling me there is no activty on the downstream sensor, have checked...

if it is a trouble code for the downstream oygen sensor, or cataylist below threshold, it pertains to the catalyitic converter. I would check that if i understand you correctly.

Need to know what the trouble code numbers are

P0743 is the Torque Converter Circuit Solenoid. The solenoid plug is on the front of the transmission and has a dark green/white and orange/black wire. The dark green/white should have 12V on it from fuse #10 when the ignition is on. The orange/black is a grounding wire from pin 79 of the powertrain controller which should only be grounded when the car is going over 45 mph or so. You could check that the wire is patent between the plug and the powertrain plug (near 0 ohms). The solenoid is a coil or wire so it would have a low, but non-0 resistance, maybe less than an ohm, but still not 0. To really test it you would need an impedence meter, but a good digital ohmmeter should show it to be slightly more resistance than is shown when you test the resistance of the meter leads themselves. If the resistance, the patency, and the 12V supply is all shown to be OK, then I would suspect the solenoid is not functing properly. If you are getting torque converter lock up when you accelerate slowly from 40 to 50 mph then it is working and the code is false. P1899 Park or neutral position switch stuck in park or gear. Recap: P0743 Torque converter clutch circuit faulty, P1899 Position switch to park and nutral stuck. Check the wire harness and look for any clips may be lose or disconnected and wires condition. Good luck and keep me posted. be glad to help

Amount of torque on valve cover bolts

it's 12 nM which appears to convert to about 9 foot lbs of torque.... if your torque wrench has nM use that.
