Excessive wear on 1997 s type jag rear brakes. 20k miles since new, front pads down to 7mm, rear pads gone and disc damaged!!
The electronic parking brake on s type is prone to sticking and also needs to be calibrated correctly after pad changes. First check that the brake calipers are not jammed and the pads are fitted correctly and all parts are free to move. Then try a recalibration of the park brake. to do this - disconnect battery for 10 mins MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RADIO CODE as this will need to be entered when you reconnect battery.
Connect battery, put you foot on the brake pedal (not too hard) and then apply park brake switch. your message centre indication should go out.
If you have unexpected message ie. parkbrake fault - use this method to rectify it, as a low battery voltage often causes a parkbrake fault message to appear.
Hope this helps good luck
Unfortunatly this is normal, nothing can be done about it. Get pads checked every 15,000 miles to save discs.
