Rear blinkers and brake lights on 2001 ford focus not working

I've got a 2001 Ford Focus SE 4 door. The rear blinkers and the rear brake lights are not working. The brake light on the middle of the trunk is working. The front blinkers work, but are going faster than normal. The rear light turns on when I turn on my headlights.

I've changed the bulbs and I've checked all of the fuses. They all look fine. Any suggestions?

Ice, you have a ground problem. Grounds for the back lights are on the drivers side. Follow the harness. Grounds come out of it and bolt to the body. Is not the turn signal switch.

I have this same problem on my 2007 Ford Focus right now. The blinkers work sometimes. The "door ajar" alarm will come on while you're driving and the door locks will lock and unlock themselves when this happens and now the brake lights won't work. The fuses are fine, bulbs are fine. We replaced the turn signal switch because lots of people said that was the problem with their vehicle. It still doesn't work- neither the blinkers, nor the brake lights. What do I check for now? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wendy, yours is a ground problem also. But your's is inside the car. Check the ground point on the drivers side. It is behind the kick panel on the left of the drivers foot.

The locks could be BCM problems also. Have the codes scanned..

Yes it sounds like the turn signal switch is defective, the brake lights go through that switch as well.

TS switch would be front and back.

I have a 2000 ford focus SE AND driver side brake light will not work...have only tried changing bulbs

Could be in your signal switch..Get someone to watch your brake lights,,and apply your brakes,,and move your blinker switch around and see if the brake light tries to come on..The brake light circuit runs through the switch...Even if the blinkers work it can have a short in the switch,...Then if that dont work,,take a test light and see if your getting voltage to the light...If so wiggle the wires on the light socket and see if there is a bad connection

My rear drivers light was not working.

It sounds like a possible short or bad ground.

Some of these cars have a problem with the wiring harness. Part of the harness runs into the hatch/rear door, and the moving back and forth when opening and closing it causes the harness to get damaged. I have heard rumors of a recall, but I don't know if it is true or not.

2000 ford focus rear driving lights

Had this problem myself. Try replacing your brake light switch, they are not real expensive and can be changed in a matter of mineuts. It is located by following your brake pedal all the way up to the top, when you get there , there id a switch that when you push down on the brake it releases the button to put you brake lights on and when you take your foot off the brake itallows the switch to go back.
