No trailer right turn signal or brake light

All lights work on the truck, only the right turn and brake lights won't work on the trailer connector (both 4 pin & 7 pin connectors)

Hey Boon,

The pinouts for a 7-way plug are as follows:
Seven wire Trailer plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:

White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Yellow = Left turn/Brake - 5
Green = Right turn Brake - 6
Orange or Purple (not both) = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Recreational Vehicle:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Green = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Red = Left turn/Brake - 5
Brown = Right turn Brake - 6
Yellow = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

In both cases 4 is battery and 7 is reverse, aux or not used.

Double check your wiring using these lists as a reference.

I had that problem. I purchased a engine diagnostic and trouble . code reader and cleared the DTC. it took about 3 times. I then purchased a Super Chip Tuner from Summit Racing and installed the new tuning , I then checked the trailer lights (brake and turn lights) they are working fine!! now. I think when I first cleared the DTC,s that fix it. or The Super Chips Tuner fix the problem. Martin

Sounds like a short in the wires between the vehicle wiring and the trailer plug. probably a corrosion problem because most poeple, including the factory, don't protect the trailer harness as well as they should. i would replace the wires that go to the specific contacts with the problems, if you want the cheap way. if you want the best way replace everything from the body harness all the way, including the 4 and 7 pin connectors. Napa sells a great combo connector that i use on nearly all vehicles. whatever you do, remember, there is no such thing as too much electrical tape or heat shrink. put a good protective layer of something on the harness to protect it against the elements.

Did you check for power with a test light right at the connectors?? If so, follow and visually check the wiring from the connectors back to the "t plugin", which is the point where the wiring to the trailer connectors tee off the wiring to the truck tail lights. The 7 pin has a separate connection for brake lights but the 4 pin doesn't... 4 pin connectors have Left turn/stop, Right turn/stop, Park (tail) light, and ground, so it uses a combination of left turn and right turn for the brake lights...

Trailer light issues

Hi Donald,
It sounds like a wiring issue. Double the wiring to your connector on the vehicle. Also check the wiring on the trailer connector. I have seen many trailer that are wired to ground through the ******, this of course will cause an intermittent ground and flickering lights. you only need four (4) wires... One for a ground, One for running lights, and Two wires for brake and turn - one wire for the left and one wire for the right. You can also find the proper pin wiring for vehicle and trailer on the internet. Cheers. I hope this helps. John

Only left trailer blinker and brake light work when I hook up my trailer. Just got this 2006 Nissan Titan and everything worked on my trailer before. There was no TRAILER TURN RH relay installed in the...

If the blinker is working on the truck then fuse is good, this sounds like a bad bulb or connection to the light, the brake and signal use the same filement in the bulb. check the bulb first, next thing to determine if its the trailer wiring or the truck socket, use a testlight and test the connector or the wire at the trailer connector and see if there power in the wire, but check close to connector if theres power coming out the connector then it in the trailer wiring or bulb,. also im not sure what this trailer turn relay rh is that you speak off. the only thing i could think of is to converter the signal and brake on the truck to operate the same bulb on the trailer, if this is what you installed then check that wiring also as the controls the lights to the trailer, but if this truck was built with the tow package then it should of be wiring already for this. here a good site to help you with the wiring as this gets hard to explain over the computer, but again test the tow connector on the truck first with a testlight, this way you will be able to see if it the trailer wiring or the truck wiring to connector. google trailerlightwiring. good day. let me know if you have any other questions.

you need a adapter for the flashing lights left and right as well the brake lights are seperate along with parking lights for the electric brakes you have to run a power direct to battery with circuit breaker installed on the line but if you look under the bumper near the drivers side in the back you have a connector installed by the company and you might be able to use it if that is what you did then you have to check the fuses because everthing is installed except the fuse for the connector so if thats what you did check the fuse box for missing fuses or burnt so green wire for right, white ground ,brown parking,yellow left the brake lights go through the adapter so check it out

All lights work and brake light at top works. brake lights on bottom left and right don't work. It was hook up to trailer wires connection. going down the road and when you turn on the right turn signal...

Check a few things...
- The bulbs
- Check for ground at brake lamp connectors
- Check your wiring at the connectors for power
- Check for another fuse blown
- Do not hook up the trailer until you fix the ground problem on the trailer
- On some models, there is a module to control the rear/trailer lighting system. There may be a problem in the module.

No running lights on camper trailer

Hey Paul, it's most likely a wiring problem. There is one wire designated for just the running lights. What type of plug does the truck have? Probably 6 or 7 way (6 or 7 wire). You can check the plug-in at the truck with a multi-meter to see if there's power at that point. If there is, then the problem is somewhere from the trailer plug to the lights on the trailer. If you have a 7 way plug, the center plug is for aux. power (back up lights on what you pull, if equipped). One wire is power to the camper battery for a breakaway switch, one for left turn and stop, one for right turn and stop, a ground wire, one for running lights, and one for trailer brakes. To determine what wire does what, 1st with meter check volts of all wires w/ truck and trailer hooked up, truck running, power wire to battery for breakaway should show voltage if equipped w/ a trickle charge, brake wire will show low voltage, approx. 2 volts, apply brakes and should go up to approx. 12 volts, put on L turn signal, meter should go up and down, as power to blinker pulses on and off, do the same to determine which is the R turn signal (put foot on truck brakes will show voltage to brake lights AND brakes, continue w/ process of elimination to determine which is running lights, and exactly where power is not going.

2001 Sportage Trailer wire connections

brown to the tail lights. yellow to left turn signal. green to right turn signal. this is a basic 3 wire hook-up i use all the time w/4wire connectors for all trailers. white wire is not used. ground is established when you hook to the ball.
to find the correct wire to splice to, use a testor (has a clip to the bare wire, and a sharp point to the truck frame). using a needle, push it through a wire to rear light harness. turn on the turn signal. check if the connection is the blinker, testing until you have the blinker wire. the tail lights can be attached to the license plate wire. brakes and blinkers use same wire, so brake lights will work whenever the turn signal is attached.
to be sure everything is working right, have a second person go inside the truck and work the signals, brakes and lights one at a time while you are at the back of the trailer telling what to do.
