I have a 2004 dodge intrepid 6 cylinder, automatic transmission and the oil light comes on only when i have the brakes on or when im parked, it does not come on when im driving and theres oil in the car...what could the problem be?
I just had the same prob. it turns out to be the wiring harness that is right next to the engine oil filter. on mine it rubbed through the plastic harness but did not damage the wiring. I think due to the low voltage and it being right next to the engine block that is charged negative that it was interfering. I move the harness away about an inch so that it wont touch the metal and the oil light stopped coming on. problem fixed.I just had the same prob. it turns out to be the wiring harness that is right next to the engine oil filter. on mine it rubbed through the plastic harness but did not damage the wiring. check that you have put the right amount of oil in the sump as the oil light is probably coming as the oil surges away from the pump. disregard the dip stick for a minute . There is normally around 4 litres of oil in a sump ( 1 us gallon)
There are a couple in between the block and the transmission. I suspect one of these has rotted out. If coolant is coming from in between the transmission and the oil pan than unfortunately for you the transmission will need to be removed on order to repair the bad frost plug.
telling you to add oil to engine. maybe you should have oil & filter changed all together. asap. maintenance is very important, I cannot stress this enough, air & fuel filters need to be changed aswell.
if your car has the 2.7 litre you have to change the oil every 5oookm or 3000 miles and use the exact grade as per the book.
the 2.7 has small oil galleries.
you have low oil pressure and or idle speed.check the rpm and it should be 700 unloaded at warm temp.if the iac controller is bad and there is low idle, really low rpm could trigger the oil light to come on and the transmission vacuum controls will be causing strange behavior.
The ignition switch is faulty if the gauges and dash lights will not come on, change the fuses first. Transmission fluid and filter change needed. Differential gear oil change also needed.
