turn your key to the on position and see if you hear the fuel pump kick on, if so and you have gas in the vehicle then you should check to see if you have spark at the plugs. you can remove the sparkplugs one by one and check for spark by grounding out the end of the plug and cranking for just a few seconds. if you dont have spark it will be in either the spark plugs, the plug wires, or the coil packs.
could be the ignition coil (you can check for a spark on the ignition coil by holding the power cable coming out of the ignition coil close to an unpainted metal part of the frame. if the ignition coil has spark, then change your spark plugs (if the tips look burnt, crusty or oily), spark plug wires and distributor/coil packs.
Have you checked to see if your fuel pump is working? You should hear it coming on. Check the fuse/relays and reset button, if equipped. You need to make sure gas is going from the pump to the filter, through the filter to the injectors. If your engine is getting gas, you need to then check for spark. It could be spark plugs/coils, wires, distributor, coil pack, dist. cap, cam sensor. It could be any of these. Check for fuel and spark. Then you will know what path to take.
You're in the TDI (diesel) solutions section so it uses glow plugs. If it's a petrol engine 2.0L then it would be accessible above and below intake manifold using a swivel spark plug deep socket.
make sure battery is up then listen a fuel pump is running when you first turn the key on if that checks out then you can use an spark plug in one of the wires too see if it has spark based on the outcome of that you will know or let use know more detailed info hope this gits it going [ ha ..maybe it needs ta sit a while] just a little shop hummer
this is a common problem for these cars glow plugs go bad like spark plugs however the smoke would lead to bad mass airflow meter. it is not telling ecu corrcet miss. disconnect mass airflow meter. when cold see if this makes it start better. it should would means you need new m.a.f. glow plug issue take a test light place clamp on positive of battery then pull off glow plug connectors place tip of test light on glow plug the bad one will have a dull light unlike the good one which will be brighter. will need new plugs and wire harness four **** connectors and wire striper and crimper will fix concern good luck
Check the crank sensor... easiest way to test will be to remove a plug wire from the spark plug and place close to metal on the motor ... have some 1 turn the car over while you watch the end of the wire .... you will be looking for sparks to arc to the motor ... if nothing then you will need to replace the crank sensor. if this information helps please rate it ... if that is not the problem please let me know and we will figure it out together
