My 2001 Alero has started revving too high - practically takes off on its own sometimes. And then this moring it stalled on me when I got off the highway. I was able to restart it with no problem. Any ideas?

whistling sounds and the high rpms to a stall situation could be a loose /broken vacuum pipe possible to the transmission actuator ( automatic)
happening after a bump could be from broken engine mounts , loose ground points, harness connections loose loose battery terminals
the car will stall and idle really rough and keep dieing and not want to start best way to check is under the hood on your fuel line rail theres a relief valve and see if the pressure is low or high
I have a 2001 Monte Carlo and at 44000 miles it acted like yours. My catalitic converter was cloged up.It was a bad batch of cats. and GM paid my bill after I had it replaced. I got a "High Flow" type.It works great. Im now at 177000 miles.
I hope this helps you.
You need to replace your IAC (idle air control valve). The IAC, like it sounds, control the idle of your car. When they go bad they will cause the low idle and stalling. The IAC is located on the throttle body and is usually held on with a couple of screws. It is an easy relatively cheap fix that you can take care of by yourself.
