I would suggest checking all the wiring from the battery to the starter solenoid and the battery to earth. (car body) Also the small wire to the solenoid from the ignition switch. A poor connection may cause intermittent starting.

Are you saying it will crank and not start, or stops cranking?

Stopping cranking:
Is it a proximity key (buttonless entry, start/stop button)?
Perhaps replace the battery in the key?

Otherwise check wiring as previously suggested. Concentrate on earths. Underdone or worn/corroded earths can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. Check battery connections too, corrosion on the connectors or a loose connector can stop all the power getting out of the battery.

Cranking fine, but not starting:
Check or even just replace the Crank Angle Sensor.
Usual fault with this is difficult hot start, but difficult to start in general can be this sensor. Without it, the computer cannot determine engine timing.

I had a very difficult to diagnose fault once. Starting the car when sitting for more than half an hour would take two or three attempts. But would then start and run fine.
Injector leak down was tested, so was fuel pressure in the rail and a flow test was conducted.
Eventual culprit turned out to be a split high pressure fuel hose inside the pump assembly.

SOURCE: 05 kia spectra will not start

I have the same problem. However, I found that I have to simultaneously, push in the clutch, turn the key with my left hand, and move the shifter from one gear to the next until it starts. Has works for a week or so, but, I just ordered a new "Neutral Safety Switch" in hopes that that's the problem.

My Audi q7 quattro cranks but does not start. The car is not used regularly and remains parked for days

Sounds like you have fuel pressure loss problem. You need to check non return valve in fuel pump. To start it you nee dto treat it like it ran out of fuel. Turk key on and off several times allowing time tor the pump to prime between switches (5 seconds) then start the car.

Why my Audi Q7 3.0tdi 2007 injectors does not get power to activate them and does no pulse?

No power to the fuel injectors can be caused by a few things. If the relays, fuses, and computer all check out then I would move on to looking at the engine management and fuel system. ... A no start condition can also be caused by a faulty fuel pump, or any of the associated components.

How to install a timing belt on a 1996 Audi A6. What is the timing?

Hi

If you are not familiar with the timing I would not recommend you doing the work yourself, this is a major job to a novice. The timing keeps the engine in sync so that nothing contacts each other, the pistons and the valves, cam etc all have to do there job at a set time within a split second, a mistake on timing can result in complete enegine failure and meaning in most cases new cylinder head, new belts, tensioners, pullys, water pump, gasket etc etc etc.

I would get it into a garge as it is a staright forward task for them although does take a few hours and is often quite costly because of this. average price for a regular car is £225 for an Audi it could be more like £400 thats assuming you are in the UK.

Dan
