2002 Volvo S60 with Engine fault codes

You need to have someone scan the OBD system and tell you if the fuel trim is at the upper or lower limit. Then you will need to fault trace from the following list Possible source

• Upper limit:
  intake air leakage
  exhaust system air leakage
  defective heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)

Lower limit:

• intake air leakage
  high fuel pressure
  leaking injectors
  defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor
  contaminated engine oil
  oil level too high
  defective heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)

Code P0101 Meaning. The mass air flow (MAF) fault

P2188 (Fuel system too rich at idle) MAF FAULT

The first thing that you must do here is to have the systems computer checked for fault codes, it should have a few in memory. the codes are read through the diagnostic port under the dash.

code p0446 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system-vent control-circuit malfunction===causes --wiring--EVAP canister purge valve--ECM
code p0455 refers to EVAP system-large leak detected===causes --hose connections--intake leak--EVAP canister---EVap canister purge valve
code p0172 refers to system too rich, bank 1===causes intake blocked---EVAP canister purge valve--fuel pressure ---EGR system---injector/s ---ECM
because the EVAP purge valve appears in all codes I would be inclined to change that unit first the run the fault codes again

Any fault code stored in the PCM, scanned to knowe what code is and we could send additional details.

Take your car, if possible to drive, to a local auto parts store. Here they should be able to perform a free (usually) diagnostics test which only takes a few minutes, and this will be able to tell you what the code means as far as which component or part needs service or replaced.

If you cannot drive the vehicle, write the code down and take it to a parts dealer and ask them if they can look up the code, or search Google.com and type in "troubleshoot codes for vovlo s60".

This should bring up a list of websites and services that will better help you resolve this issue.

i would have to point towards the throttle there are software updates for these and if that doesnt help your throttle may need replaced

Easy check - are your brake lights coming on with just the usual light touch of the pedal? If not, then the microswitch that senses that your foot is on the brake needs to be adjusted or replaced.
