check that you have hooked up all the cable connections properly. run fault codes and look for TCM problem. Have a pressure test done on the transmission as there may be band/clutch adjustment problems.
Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal problems such as pump failure/blocked filter. If you have to rev it hard to get going then there is not enough pressure to close the clutches and/or bands. The box from the wreckers may have been on the way out when you got it. Remove the sump and check for material in the sump such as band linings. Check that the band actuator has not cracked and is loosing pressure.
I had a similar problem with a Dodge Caravan - On the Dodge, it's called limp mode, designed to protect the engine and tranny. If you can get the OBD-2 engine codes and look them up online you may find that the problem is elsewhere in the drivetrain. Not really an answer, but a solid suggestion of where to go from here....
Try a clean and adjust on the rear shoes, because sometimes when they aren't properly adjusted they won't seem to work properly. Also there is a common "squishy" petal feeling after brake work on most all larger GM's around that year, wich I have run into several times. Try test driving it, and put a couple miles on it, That usualy helps.
Good luck!
computer need to be reset dealer only, autotransmission shouldnt need flushing ever unless a brake band starts breaking up ,then its a strip job and rebuild .put a manual gearbox in less problems
problem 1 check the motors side by side
if the operation and mounting is the same more than likely will
problem 2 put the hand brake on and start the car, place in gear if it idles ok then put your foot on the brake --if it plays up it is a vacuum leak in the brake booster
problem 3-- gm has a policy of not changing transmission oil
if the car has more than 100,000miles on it , I would suggest taking it to an accredited transmission specialist shop, have the bands and clutch packs adjusted and a transmission oil change done
If your transmission is slipping, (seeming like its in neutral) a faulty Fluid Pump, or a defective Torque-Converter could be the problem. It could also be one of the bands inside which locks the transmission into different gears within the planetary gearsets.
First and second gear actually have one extra band each that is a Manual-First/Manual-Second engaging band which is activated by selecting Manual-First or Manual-Second and in some cars, Manual-Low with the gear-selector. And because of these bands, gives the selected gear more "grip" so to speak on those gears.
