If the plastic plunger inside the stalk split, you will need to replace the entire shifter.

The return spring inside of the shifter might be weak or broken, or the tab in the shifter gate slot might have worn out or broken. Remove the shifter base and boot and inspect the slot and tab. (the tab rides inside of the slot). An excellent replacement spring can be found at:

Hello, I can help you with this. With a tiny screwdriver you gently pry up on the button in the middle of the old knob. Work slowly, pry up a little at a time on the front and then the back until the button comes out. Back and forth. If you look inside you will see a snap ring, you can use snap-ring pliers to remove it or some sort of sharp pick or a screwdriver, CAUTION, when it releases it may spring into outer space never to be seen again. You need to take off the knob emblem cover and there is a square looking metal pun. Pry out the pin and then unscrew the knob.

You must use a small screwdriver to pry off the button very carefully and you will see the pin and retainer. Good luck,[email protected]

if it is a automatic remove the button by pulling or prying up on it underneth the button
is a snap ring you will need snap ring pliers
spred the snap ring open and pull it up then the knob is free to pull up be sure to remove the counsle upper plate so the boot can come up with the knob

Getting to be an old vehicle now days. The mount that the window knob mounts on is usually a star type gear that the handle is pushed onto. There should be a very small hole in the round part of the handle that an allen set can slide into. Then loosened the hanle should pull off the star gear. Once the handle is removed the inside door panel should easily pull out over the gear.

the six speed in these cars is a t56 tremec trans. the gearshift knob on these are just threaded onto the shifter lever. it is regular right handed threads so just grip it tightly and turn it counter clockwise to remove the shift knob. if you are only trying to remove the leather about the only way would be to cut it off but underneath it does not look good and you have to buy a whole knob not just the leather cover to replace it.

pull plastic push button up to remove. there is a snap ring that holds shifter knob on. remove snap ring pull knob up.
