They are separate.
Go to this web site for excellent instructions on how to change them. There are many illustrations. http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=337657
There are also factory pre-made lines from the dealer for $20 for the pair. They were part of a recall and the cost is very low. I just installed them. Get the part numbers at the web site above.

The lines should run down the drivers side along the frame. There should be three. Two larger lines are the fuel delivery and the fuel return. The smaller single line is your brake line. It will connect to a splitter on the rear axle housing and then go to each rear wheel.

absolutely NOT. not a a 1998 neon. lines run down PASSANGER side first of all, and they are seperate to each caliper! I know this as fact as I am currently changing the rear lines!

I have a chrysler neon 2000, recently I noticed that the brake oil is leaking for the left side rear wheel. what could the problem be? thanks

If it is leaking from the top area of the plate, and you have drum brakes...then the wheel cylinder is leaking.

2002 dodge neon right rear wheel locked up. Is it the drum brakes?

THE BRAKE LINING ON ONE OF THE SHOES MAY HAVE LET GO AND OVERLAPPED THE OTHER ONE,CAUSING IT TO BIND UP..IF NOT,TRY OPENING BLEEDER SCREW AND SEE IF IT RELEASES..IF IT DOES,REAR BRAKE HOSE MAY BE HOLDING WHEEL CYLINDER PISTONS OUT KEEPING BRAKE ON..YOU'LL NEED TO REMOVE AFFECTED DRUM AND INSPECT BRAKES AND REAR HUB/BEARINGS

2001 dodge neon rear brake problem

on the back of the brake plate you will see a slotted hole. this is the brake adjuster. take a butter knife or a "brake spoon" and turn the adjuster wheel inside until the brakes release.

1999 Dodge Neon R/T hand Brake

You have a broken cable, or one of its parts. You need to trace the cable from the "pull" back to where it splits to go to the left and right rear brakes, and finally to each rear brake. You will most likely need to get under the vehicle and for this you will need to jack it up. Please be safe, or if uncomfortable, take to a trained mechanic, that should be able to fix this for very little money.

If you choose to go it yourself, please check out this article.

Brian
